I hate this. Everyone saying how no one in the industry tries any more, yet when someone DOES, they're trying too hard. rolleyes

Beyonce has powerhouse vocals, why can't she use them?

Well Christina is another example, she ain't the only one. Plus she's singing baseless shit most of the time. lol Least to me she is.

Yeah, well, Xtina I agree with, she's ridiculous. At least Beyonce can sing a nice melody.

She does. I agree with you. Her vocals never disappoint me whenever I watch her perform. Also, Beyonce is the only popular one I know of that could adeptly cover several of Whitney's, or Michael's songs. And that's saying something. lol

I'm sorry but LMAO! I highly doubt Christina would trade her pipes for Beyonce's...too funny. Christina over-sings but her God-given instrument strikes me as being on a completely different level than Beyonce's. Beyonce does well with what she has, but she doesn't strike me as being particularly gifted like Christina, Whitney or Mariah. With Beyonce it seems more like a matter of will power and drive. And when they did the Whitney tribute, didn't Whitney specifically ask for Christina to sing "I Wanna Run to You"?

I admire Beyonce. She is extremely talented. I saw her show recently in DC and I was way, way, way more impressed than I thought I would be.

But Michael Jackson is something else altogether. He was one of a kind, and frankly I think we are far too cynical for there ever to be "another" Michael Jackson, or Madonna, or Prince.

No one else could pull this off. Hell, no one else in the music industry today could pull off Halo.

comfort You must not have heard Shanice sing it then.

Here Shanice is singing 'If I Were A Boy':

If Shanice came out of semi-retirement (she's focusing on being a wife and mommy now mushy ), she could wipe the floor with Beyonce vocally. Hell, I think Monica has better vocal abilities than Beyonce. Jennifer Hudson definitely sings better than Beyonce and I don't think that way just because she won an Oscar...she really is a better vocalist than Beyonce is. I also think Christina Aguilera's vocal abilities are evenly matched and at times better than Beyonce's and that Chris sings 'At Last' waay better than Bey has ever sang it. Beyonce is a very good vocalist, but there are many female vocalists who I find to be waay better than her who are still very much a part of the industy even if they aren't hitting platinum sales figures like Mrs. Carter. Donna Summers still has an outstanding vocal range and her last album 'Crayons' was superb, vocally and lyrically, as opposed to Beyonce's lastest album, which has a whole lot of mindless drivel when it comes to the lyrical content of many of her songs. At times, she resorts to doing a whole lot of screaming and over-singing to cover up the fact that her songs are lyrically juvenile and transparent.

Bey just has more public (over)exposure because she's more willing to tramp herself up for the cameras on the majority of her videos instead of letting her voice really sell her music as apposed to her body. Sorry, but I'm extremely tired of the leotard look and don't really think that it compliments her body at all. hmph! . There's a very fine line between classy and trashy and Beyonce seems to be teetering on that line more and more as time goes by. Sex appeal will always be a bigger draw than a vocalist who stays fully dressed and discreet while singing their ass off. That's how the music industry works unfortunately and is a major reason why it's soo shitty now. Most of the artists are really just 'images with good soundtracks' nowadays not real talented vocalists and/or musicians. It's really sad when you can go to karoake night and hear better singers than when you turn on the radio and hear some artist who's voice is covered up and distorted due to studio over-production...sad. disbelief Just my twocents

Yeah, sorry, but that Shanice is incredibly annoying. Halo isn't supposed to be sung at a snail's pace and it isn't supposed to have all those falsetto ad libs (there's some yes, but not THAT many gawd).

Monica? falloff

Jennifer Hudson? They're level, in my opinion. I couldn't choose one over the other. I love them both.

Christina? falloff She can sing, duh, but she can't, or doesn't want to, just sing beautiful melodies. She wants to BELT every goddamn time and it's so aggravating. Listen to "Hurt", sung normally, it could've been beautiful. But instead she shows no concept of restraint and goes gung ho for the chorus and most of the middle eight, completely ruining any chance at emotional effect and almost venturing towards melodrama.

Yes, Halo is a BIG song, but Beyonce shows restraint and variation in the verses and only really gets loud for the second part of the chorus (i can see your HALOOOO).

I guess it's all a matter of whether you judge who can sing by who can belt or who can vary it up AND belt. Belting is no doubt the measurement for most people, but for me it's more about the whole voice, not just the volume or strength.

That goes for pretty much all 4 of my favourite artists:

Beyonce - as above
Prince - dude probably has the most varied voice in pop music
MJ - as above
Britney - listen to "Unusual You" then "Amnesia" then "Boys" - huge variation, even if her voice is weak and she's unfortunately stopped singing live.

I haven't completely listened to I Am Sasha Fierce yet, and while I agree there are some mindless songs on there, that's not necessarily a bad thing. I definitely prefer the "Beyonce" side of the CD though.

Bey just has more public (over)exposure because she's more willing to tramp herself up for the cameras on the majority of her videos instead of letting her voice really sell her music as apposed to her body.

Halo? If I Were A Boy? Broken Hearted Girl? Hell, even Sweet Dreams isn't that bad...

Anyway, Beyonce HAS the voice so what's wrong with adding sex appeal to it as well? It's up to the audience to recognise the good from the bad and they did that with Halo. Single Ladies was only big because the dance was easy to learn.

I'm really suprised that people are saying that Beyonce is equal to, or even better than Christina Aguilera and Jennifer Hudson vocally!

I'm not saying Beyonce is a bad singer, she is quite good when you compare her to the most of the weak singers on the charts, but she isn't that strong either!

The way people make a big deal out of her, she may be seen as a legend in 2-3 decades! LOL
I really hope that doesn't happen, unless she does something to deserve it.

she is strong, though I agree she is not as strong as she used to be as a teenager. The shit hop she does really hides her voice and comes out when she does ballads. I saw a montage of vocal clips of her best moments, and I was like shiiit she sounded like that? Her voice is still strong, but went down.
