If the general public had any taste, all the current so-called artists on that show and most of those for the last 15 years would be has-beens.

I find the younger artists much more boring. No originality like the older artists. Absolutely no real creativity.

I did not get that performance. Not to mention, what's up with the wedding attire?

Hi all,

My comment is why is Soulja Boy even allowed on a stage?

That "song" of his may well be the WORST song in existence today!

Mike will be missed for actually creating some of the best music in modern times (IMO)

Mutts

And Beyonce really needs to just stop.....(Seriously, just stop)

See the O'Jays performed?... I believe more of that will keep BET alive...More old skool artists and performances.
Tell me wat the hell so interestin about Soulja Boy soundin like he in pain throughout an entire song?
Y'all think he would've made it back in the day at the Apollo? lol .....NOPE!

True, the O'Jays brought back some good memories and real music. It's a damn shame what these young artists that the industry blows up like they have real talent is what are replacing them.

The young actress that sang MJ's song "Who's Loving You" sang it just as good as MJ when MJ was young. Now her singing was on the money. We need more singers like her, with real talent at the forefront. I'm tired of these fake, made-up Barbie impersonators imitating "real talent."

We wanna cry, dance / embrace the mans legacy this needs some more time to soak in and then do this. "The show must go on" no i dont think so not this time, not yet.. I think it was kind of a weird statement that the entire family thought it was "too painful" to go out there, so they sent the baby of the family -- and the closest to Michael -- to represent them!! ...When Joseph's crazy butt was right there!! I have no choice but to respect their family dynamics and choices, but they get odder and odder in my mind. confused
[Edited 6/28/09 21:05pm]

Well speaking for myself I have had a resent death in my family also so I know how janet much feel I am also the baby in my family and I was very close to my brother that passed away and I was kind of like janet as in representing the family because everyone else could not do it.so don't discount the baby as the weak one because we are stronger then you think.

I certainly can't argue with you there.

I think my incredulousness comes more from the constant strangeness of the family overall than Janet's capability to represent them. I have the greatest respect for her strength.

But I admit I don't know exactly what they're all going through, so... shrug

I recorded it in case something good happened and as I scrolled through looking for Janet (who looked beautiful even in mourning) I see it was truly a cringefest of the largest proportion. For some reason T-Pain stood out to me. Going on stage with a cup and the glasses and his whole look wearing an MJ shirt. What a f*cking disgrace.disbelief Why is it so hard for people to have some dignity for one day? I wanted to fly out to LA and kick him in the throat. I decided to fast forward in superspeed and then go backward since Janet was on at the end. As soon as she was done, I was done.

Now you know it was bad when we get Jackie this mad falloff falloff falloff

Well, I really don't know what to say...

... was that Ne-Yo performance of "Lady In My Life" supposed to have been somehow avant-gardist, or just plain bad? The melody was all over the place there.

The one I saw was pitch perfect with nary a note out of place. He pretty much copied it verbatim ( at least for the one I saw in the red shirt).

If that is pitch perfect to the ears of today's generation I really must be getting old.

Maybe it's just the phrasing, but the chords and the singing don't really match in the same way as on the original. Well, whatever.

I'ma just say this: Although the show could have been a whole lot better, in BET's defense there were many issues, beyond their control, that occurred behind the scenes that hampered their ability to do a better show. It's really easy for the public to sit back and judge yet not have any clue whatsoever of what their intentions were and why they failed to deliver. And of course there's no way for them to publically defend themselves because they'd risk ruining relationships with various celebrities. There was a WHOLE lot going on and knowing this I'm willing to cut BET some slack. They had their hearts in the right place.

Okay lol, maybe a totally-off guess of mine, but i think "Ave Maria" is sometimes used at ceremonial services and maybe her outfit was somewhat a reference to that last dance in the "Swan Lake" story ? shrug lol

jaimestarr79

that was the best bET award show ever, minus a few minstrel show type stuff. We all could of done without that stupid ghetto "Baby Boy" Ving rhames, Tyrese bullshit. It seemed like the perfect show until that shit started. Just think the whole world was tuning in to see them act a fool. Making Black folks look bad.

Also those stupid promos for the Toya and Tiny bullshit. That has got to be one of the most ghetto shows ever. Why hasn't BET moved beyond these negative black images on television?

Other that the negative minstrel shit. I really liked all of the 90's artists' performances. I also liked the tribute to the Ojays. Jaime Foxx and Ne-yo did hell of a job. They could of left off little weeze and Souja boy.

Who was that fat dude on stage with New Edition? Was that Bobby Brown?

She looks like a spoiled little girl playing an angel in an elementary school Christmas show. You know the kind, where all the other kids are singing fun songs like "Jingle Bells" and clapping their hands and then all of a sudden the teacher's pet has to come out dressed like an angel and sing something slow like "Oh Little Town Of Bethlehem" to bore the hell out of everyone. All her classmates hate her but all the teachers and parents are watching her and saying...."Awwww...she's so precious". lol

Instead of Evil Tv saying that they were gonna go all out, They should have waited and did a Tribute show ala Freddie Mercury.

But the show was simply a Disgrace, They didn't really change anything. They keep on promoting buffoonary. And we complain when white people do it. This is suppose to be Black TV! rolleyes

TV in general is a disgrace, BET just happens to join a large bunch. Just because their hearts were supposedly sincere don't mean that they did the best they could. If that's the best then they done lost the plot.
