most of MJ's outtakes have been released officially on box sets or compilations, and out of the tracks that have been put out, none of them are up to the same standard as the rest of the albums, in that both songwise they aren't as good, and production wise most of them are demos rather than completely finished songs (whereas most prince outtakes are completed as much as any other prince track) they could collate a bunch of them onto one or two discs or a box set, but it would probably never happen as critics would then say that material wasn't a patch on the rest, which is why it's been bundled up with other compilations there are unnoficial bootleg compilations with various outtakes, just like there are prince bootlegs, and also live bootlegs too. i imagine the p2p places are full of that stuff right now if you have a look at the playlist on the first page of this thread i've included pretty much all the outtakes in circulation from off the wall onwards, in pretty much chronological order. you will know the album tracks, so you can tell thee non album tracks, as the collabs from other peoples albums have the name of the other artist | |

I think that MJ admired Prince. I don't know what happened, all I know is that MJ will be missed by everyone and I wonder what killed him. No one knows why MJ did what he did on the day he chose to do it on or if he even had control over what happened to him. His family doesn't even know what happen. They don't know who was with Michael when this situation occurred. It is so important to keep your family close especially when you are successful. This guy went into cardiac arrest minutes after a Demerol injection. Demerol overdose causes respiratory arrest initially. You chose to be a Prince fan because you love his music and hopefully that is why you remain a Prince fan. MJ is one of the greatest musicians born just like Prince. I like Prince more because he played an instrument and he has a style no one can replicate. | |

thriller was a great album, but MJ dropped the ball by taking so long to release his follow up, which at the time was a particularly long time as normally artists would release an album a year back then. so prince released 1999, purple rain, around the world in a day, parade and sign o the times by the time the follow up to thriller came out, and bad wasn't a patch on it's predecessor. in the meantime MJ had many problems and issues and pretty much went off the rails
it's sad that a once promising artist went off the rails like MJ did. in the end, his last recorded music was never released and he never got to perform a full show in 12 years. the live side of his work was never fully realised, so no-one ever got to see him as an adult perform a full set singing his own songs for every hit single, he had a bizarre story, starting off as fun with a pet monkey, a zoo, elephant man bones and hyperbaric chamber, and ending with bankruptcy, drug abuse and child abuse. no other artist with so many hits has as many scandals, so with big artists the scandals are usually forgotten about as the music plays a bigger part of history. it's a shame that he didn't put more into his work to make people remember him more for the music than the scandal many prince fans started off listening to michael jackson, but as his releases were few and far between over the last 30 years, prince flooded his fans with new albums and live shows, and his material was of a more adult nature, rather than the childlike image that michael tried to portray. as kids growing up want to shake off the child and grow towards the adult, they will reach for more adult orientated music like princes (or rap and rnb music today), so it's almost like prince came along and snapped up a chunk of fans who waited too long for a new michael jackson record, and once they listened to prince and found out more about him, they become hooked on prince and forget about michael. when jackson finally drops a new release, it's usually been more dissapointing than the previous album, and with a number of great prince albums released during that period it shows up the lesser tracks on the jackson albums, so whilst the singles stand out as being great, the other tracks seemed very much second rate by comparison i always considered michael to be much closer to madonna than prince, in that she relied on others to write, record and produce tracks for her, whilst prince would just do everything himself and in his own studio. madonna, prince and michael were almost as popular as each other around 1985, but 25 years later, who would have thought madonna would have been the most succesful? had michael avoided the bad moves such as moonwalker, captain eo and ghosts, and stuck to the music instead of the bizarre, perhaps he could have been the most succesful still, and followed a similar career path to madonna the past few months i've recently went through my fairly comprehensive collection of jackson material, viewing concert and tv footage, and compiling the playlist posted earlier. in listening to everything i could really hear the music change from the greatness in off the wall and thriller and becoming more dissapointing as it went on, but with real gems that stood out on later albums, standing out moreso as they were so good, but the other tracks were so dissapointing. i think if he had retired early after history and dissapeared out of public life it would have made a more fitting end to his career. it's just sad how it all ended so badly i never expected him to appear at the o2 shows, certainly not all of them, i was just waiting for something to be announced as an excuse for the shows to be cancelled. i never thought he was fit enough to put on the type of show that randy phillips was suggesting, so when the story first broke i thought it was another sham story like turning up at the court room in pyjamas, i never thought the curtain would come down like this i hear AEG are facing huge losses of millions as a result of this, and whilst a price can't be put on anyones life, perhaps it will serve as a message to randy phillips and AEG that they took one step too far in the way they treated the fans in the way they handled the ticket sales and cancelations (i suppose now i can mention that they only originally sold half the number of tickets that the o2 could hold, knowing they could comfortably seat far more, but they wanted so much to claim a sell out and hype everything up), and by pushing michael into something he obviously wasn't comfortable in doing, and ultimately contributed to his death i put together the tracklist on the front page just two weeks ago, and it seems to serve as the perfect tribute to the most important part of his life to his fans, which is the music of his adult life. i didn't expect much more to be added to the list, but i didn't think it would become the final tracklist to his life he lived his life in the tabloids, and ended his life in the tabloids. i don't think anyone will ever know the real michael jackson and when the groove is dead and gone... | |

I'm still in total shock; but I feel I owe a lot to Michael, because he was the one who got me into music. Period. He helped me find my own favorite genres of music as opposed to listening to what my parents listened to. I'm 17 right now, but I'll never forget the impact "Beat It" had the first time I heard it. As a result, "Beat It," "Billie Jean," "Rock With You," and "Black Or White(the music video for which premiered on the day I was born)" shaped my pre-teenage years, and Accumulating his other albums and listening to what they contained taught me in my early teens (13/14) not to judge people, but to know them for who they really are. It was only a couple of years ago when I learned about this fella Prince, and, well, that was a whole different thing because I grew to appreciate musicianship more as I do now; but I feel bad saying over the past few years admitting that I'd jumped off of the MJ train because he didn't play all the instruments or produce everything on his own. Oddly enough, on Wednesday night of this past week I played some of "Off The Wall," and went, "hey, I forgot this guy's really got it, doesn't he!?"
Anyway, Sorry it's so long; I normally read the threads more than I write, but I had to comment on this, get it out of my system and be done... I don't think I'll ever be able to listen to "Man In The Mirror" or "You Are Not Alone" again. Those two really hit home for me. Favorites: Pretty much all of "Off The Wall" "Wanna Be Startin' Something" "PYT" "Beat It" & "Billie Jean" (aw, hell, all of "Thriller") again, Pretty much all of "Bad", I liked how he'd kind of defined a Pop-Funk-R&B-Dance sound for himself with that album. I love "Jam", sometimes I think too much, same with "2 Bad." That song is the business. LOVE Blood On THe Dance Floor. Love the album. Love the Title song Single. those TM remixes are awesome to run to. I think "Invincible" is kind of underrated. | |

There's enough negative news in the media to last a lifetime as it is. I decided to turn the channel, when some of them started bringing up all the negative stuff. His body isn't even in the ground yet, and their feasting on the BS already like hungry vultures. I've been watching VH1 and BETJ as they are playing MJ videos all day. Brings back so many good memories. I haven't seen the "Bad" video in a while, as well as many others, and just watching MJ perform with all that energy, and watch his fantastic dance moves, brought a smile to my face. There could not be a Prince if it was not for Michael Jackson. Everyone who was Black and lived in the 70's wanted to be a member of the Jackson 5. They were the coolest thing going for Black kids. For millions of Black kids growing up at that time they emulated the Jackson's singing,dancing, and fashion.
Now for a talented person like Prince Roger Nelson and his crew in Minnapolis then they KNEW they could do what they did and the game was on. MJ pushed Prince and vice versa. We lost a legend people. |

The drums and rhythms on that album are sooo cool and unique (I think it is the most unique of his albums)... True. On that same token Michael wouldn't have been Michael without Jermaine. Originally, Jermaine led the singing group at the behest of their father, who at first felt that Michael was too young. It was Jermaine who convinced him otherwise because HE was the first to see potential greatness in his little brother and cultivated him to that effect. It was J who practically raised MJ from a pup in all facets of life and music giving him the confidence 2 accomplish all that he did. Thank God for the entire Jackson family. Peace! | |

Well, the one thing I do know about the comparison of Michael Jackson and Prince is that, Michael loved and appreciated his fans, while Prince treats his like crap! Prince could really learn a lesson from Michael in that aspect![b] [b][Edited 6/27/09 19:33pm] | |

it's sad that a once promising artist went off the rails like MJ did. in the end, his last recorded music was never released and he never got to perform a full show in 12 years. the live side of his work was never fully realised, so no-one ever got to see him as an adult perform a full set singing his own songs for every hit single, he had a bizarre story, starting off as fun with a pet monkey, a zoo, elephant man bones and hyperbaric chamber, and ending with bankruptcy, drug abuse and child abuse. no other artist with so many hits has as many scandals, so with big artists the scandals are usually forgotten about as the music plays a bigger part of history. it's a shame that he didn't put more into his work to make people remember him more for the music than the scandal many prince fans started off listening to michael jackson, but as his releases were few and far between over the last 30 years, prince flooded his fans with new albums and live shows, and his material was of a more adult nature, rather than the childlike image that michael tried to portray. as kids growing up want to shake off the child and grow towards the adult, they will reach for more adult orientated music like princes (or rap and rnb music today), so it's almost like prince came along and snapped up a chunk of fans who waited too long for a new michael jackson record, and once they listened to prince and found out more about him, they become hooked on prince and forget about michael. when jackson finally drops a new release, it's usually been more dissapointing than the previous album, and with a number of great prince albums released during that period it shows up the lesser tracks on the jackson albums, so whilst the singles stand out as being great, the other tracks seemed very much second rate by comparison i always considered michael to be much closer to madonna than prince, in that she relied on others to write, record and produce tracks for her, whilst prince would just do everything himself and in his own studio. madonna, prince and michael were almost as popular as each other around 1985, but 25 years later, who would have thought madonna would have been the most succesful? had michael avoided the bad moves such as moonwalker, captain eo and ghosts, and stuck to the music instead of the bizarre, perhaps he could have been the most succesful still, and followed a similar career path to madonna the past few months i've recently went through my fairly comprehensive collection of jackson material, viewing concert and tv footage, and compiling the playlist posted earlier. in listening to everything i could really hear the music change from the greatness in off the wall and thriller and becoming more dissapointing as it went on, but with real gems that stood out on later albums, standing out moreso as they were so good, but the other tracks were so dissapointing. i think if he had retired early after history and dissapeared out of public life it would have made a more fitting end to his career. it's just sad how it all ended so badly i never expected him to appear at the o2 shows, certainly not all of them, i was just waiting for something to be announced as an excuse for the shows to be cancelled. i never thought he was fit enough to put on the type of show that randy phillips was suggesting, so when the story first broke i thought it was another sham story like turning up at the court room in pyjamas, i never thought the curtain would come down like this i hear AEG are facing huge losses of millions as a result of this, and whilst a price can't be put on anyones life, perhaps it will serve as a message to randy phillips and AEG that they took one step too far in the way they treated the fans in the way they handled the ticket sales and cancelations (i suppose now i can mention that they only originally sold half the number of tickets that the o2 could hold, knowing they could comfortably seat far more, but they wanted so much to claim a sell out and hype everything up), and by pushing michael into something he obviously wasn't comfortable in doing, and ultimately contributed to his death i put together the tracklist on the front page just two weeks ago, and it seems to serve as the perfect tribute to the most important part of his life to his fans, which is the music of his adult life. i didn't expect much more to be added to the list, but i didn't think it would become the final tracklist to his life he lived his life in the tabloids, and ended his life in the tabloids. i don't think anyone will ever know the real michael jackson and when the groove is dead and gone... A true voice of wisdom. Thank you very much.  I had made the exact same predictions about those O2 shows. I knew that there was no way he'd wind up doing them all. I just didn't know that it would end up like this. Not that I could honestly say that I was surprised. I think if we are really honest with ourselves, many of us would have to admit that we saw this coming from miles off. Still...it's tragic and so sad.
It looks like Prince will be proven to be prophetic when he said that no one would ever break his 21 nights O2 record unles he does it. | |
