And I think sometimes they have had similarities such as working with jimmy jam & terry lewis, and her backing layered vocals produced by them reminding me of some of janet's work.

I also think that janet's vocals in Discipline reminded me a little bit of Mariah's vocals with the way they were arranged, and I stay in love with you sounds like a good cross between never letchu go and greatest ex.

But they really are two different people, and IMO, Janet is naturally sexy and Mariah tries too hard.

But for some reason, since Janet came out with Velvet Rope, Mariah made albums like Butterfly, Rainbow and Charmbracelet where she kept saying they were her most personal albums ever, and there was a depressive tone to them with some great work. Even Mary J. Blige was doing that for sometime in the late 90's
