this wasn't a happy album. when you compare this one album to her entire discography just based on the tone and the themes you will see it was in some dark miserable place.

I have never really been a fan of JJ music, although albums like Control do make me all teary eyes at times, just thinking about my youth. The only album JJ had me hooked on was Janet, that was her most matured and sensual album to date: from "again" to "anytime, anyplace" to "throb" I loved all her song.

janet was the peak.

however the album means alot me from growing up and now.

Yeah Depression is NO JOKE, that was a dark period for Janet! A lotta child hood issues were getting to her. Janet self medicated and still does, like majority of the stars do, she is just down low with it. Janet just hold shit in and keep secrets for years, until she's on the verge of a nervous breakdown. That pain comes out in her music.

Her ego is bruised now because she can't get her career back on track! Mr. Midget ain't helping the situation none. Jermaine can write all these hits for other stars but no hits for his lady? lol

Janet is freaky as hell telling Oprah were all her private piercing was!
[Edited 6/10/09 20:00pm]

her lackluster albums are not all Dupri's fault, it's her fault as well. She's been riding the over sexed train for too many years now.

During her "oversexed" album, Janet would mention in interviews she wants to do a Brazillian album, an album about racism and hatred, but she didn't want to sound like Sade the way Def Jam did, so who wants what? It's really hard to say.

it's so funny how most people can't name a Janet song even though she broke records with having number 1 tracks off albums, but most could name mj or madonna.

lol If those people can't name at least one Janet song, than they are either, very young; didn't listen to the radio or watch MTV, BET, or VH1 at all during the 80s and 90s; or they just aren't fans of Janet, but even non-Janet fans can name at least 1 song that she's done (if they have the ability to hear that is). I've met lots of non-Prince fans who can name more than one Prince song. They most often use one of these: 'Purple Rain', 'Little Red Corvette', '1999', or 'My Name is Prince'...hey, they count shrug .

I've noticed that many young people don't usually go out and search out artists who aren't being played in heavy rotation on the radio. Something that's crazy to me is that there are soo many youngsters who think that autotune/voice altering is a new sound. Obviously, those people either have bad memories or they were born in the early 90s and are too young to remember. If they don't remember Roger's "I Wanna Be Your Man", they should at least remember Blackstreet when they used that voice-altering sound during the mid-90s.

To this day, nobody has broken Janet's 2 records with 'Rhythm Nation': 1) having 7 Top 5 singles from just one album; and, 2) the only album in history to produce number one hits on the Billboard Hot 100 in three separate calendar years—"Miss You Much" in 1989, "Escapade" and "Black Cat" in 1990, and "Love Will Never Do (Without You)" in 1991. I don't believe that Madonna, Britney, Mariah, or even Michael himself have broken these records.

People can talk shit about Janet all they want to, because at the end of the day, she still has records that haven't been broken for 20 years. Even Mariah just recently broke Elvis' record of #1 singles and that took over 30 years to happen, and I think the Beatles still have her beat in that category. If these artists are going to be called 'Icons', than Janet damn sure deserves the title just as much as they do for what she's accomplished in her career.

At this point, she really has nothing to prove to anyone but herself and her fans IMO. I really do wish that she would try a different sound on her next album because the past 3 have been weak...not terrible, but very weak considering her earlier albums. She just needs to tell that chocolate, gap-toothed troll that she insists on dating to stop producing her music because he isn't helping her at all. Just my twocents

This is pretty interesting. nod

I hear you on people thinking certain sounds are new. Everyone thought Usher and Ciara's stuff and everything else that sounded like drum and bass and freestyle was a new sound, but I had to keep explaining and rubbing in people's face that it sounded so 80's and they looked puzzled. I would think that people in the 90's would at least be familiar with 80's music that was still heavily played on the radio the way 90's music is played just as much as today's music at times, but people don't seem to care, and think "very old songs" are as old as 2 years ago, or even a couple of months nowadays.

I agree that it's not all Jermaine's fault, because: 1) Janet gives him permission to fuck up her shit; and, 2) she doesn't seem to be all that into her music like she was years ago. She sometimes sounds like her heart just isn't in it anymore. sad I think she needs to listen to herself and not everybody else; and, just take chances again like she did with VR because it was a complete 180 from the janet. album and nobody expected that coming from her. nod

She's been riding the over sexed train for too many years now.

lol If Madonna, Mariah, and Britney weren't doing this exact same thing, I would agree with you. Both Britney and Madonna have kids, so I really don't get why they don't at least make an effort to tone it down just a bit in the over-sexed department. Madonna is also older than Janet and she'll ride the sex train until that muthafucka derails. I swear she's got a lifetime pass on thing. lol Mariah is...well, Mariah; not even Janet walks around half-
dressed like Mariah does; and Mariah is only 3 years younger than her. If Janet continues to do it after they all stop, than I'll be one of the first ones to voice my opposition to it. nod

Even though Bad has the 80's stamp all over it, I think it's aged better just in the same way Madonna's 80's sounding work has. I love all of Janet's stuff too from the 80's, but it was too overproduced that it sounds completely different from anything else out there to blend in with newer stuff the way things off albums like OTW, Thriller, Bad, True Blue, Madonna, Like a Prayer have.

And I'm a huge Janet fan.

Of course it's relevant, the messages and dancing and all is amazing and the attitude is too which is timeless. But I'm saying the keyboards, instruments etc. used SCREAM 80's, that's what I meant, it doesn't mean I don't like it, cause I LOVE 80's music and consider Control a classic though I like her first 2 albums a little more. Next time, please refrain from calling anyone stupid just cause they don't think like you.
