I think the real question is.....is janet still relevant?
They (The Jacksons) will have a top spot in music history and thier catalog is legendary, however thier status as a pop music icons has fizzled out! [Edited 5/8/09 15:33pm]

That is true more most of the industry except for county music.. Country Music is like the "new Pop". They probably won't allow too many brothers over there though.. Darius Rucker seems to be "ripping up those charts".. The music of black pop, or urban pop have an "I don't give a damn as long as I am getting mine" metality. Now, with the bootleg CD-Rs, and mp3s, theat mentality in the community has led to low record sales. The people aren't buying anything if their friend allows the to listen for weeks. Is Britney Spears' career over? Unfortunately no. If Britney can still have a successful career after becoming an even weaker artist over just a 10 year career span, than yes, Janet has a chance at coming back at some point. Mariah did it successfully, why couldn't Ms. Jackson? She just needs to try a different sound because the style she's attached to now isn't doing anything for her. Prince Rogers Nelson

She should just do movies for awhile, with the occasional strong soundtrack song. That'll make people anticipate a future album from her and BANG! She will have to be unpredictable though and have a reinvention of her music, sound, image etc. as much as I like everything she's done.

Graycap23 said: Janet's material has not matured with her age. If u listen 2 her music, u would think that she is 22 years old. Perhaps she should get away from these lame as hiphop producers and get more in tune with a more mature audience. Singing about one's sex life in your 40's is NOT going 2 cut.
I agree with you on that. I have found the songs that I love from Janet are the over-sexed songs. Songs like "Enjoy" and "Can't B Good" are really good songs that doesn't center around sex. As for her career being over. I think the HUGE career is over. However, Janet did manager to break a few records and have some very good videos that has helped establish her as an icon. I just hate that people continue to link her to the Superbowl fiasco. If Janet can manage to get her stuff together and create music that a 40+ year old should make, she'll be ok. She should leave her relationship with Jermaine as personal and he should stay out of her music career totally. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

Prince doesn't look his either, but he had to slow down on the sex songs in order to grow. At this point in Janet's life, the music should be sensual and not sexual. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

I know this is a Michael "tabloid story" but according to TMZ, some company called AllGoodEntertainment SUPPOSEDLY order some "cease and desist" thing on Mike's tour "claiming" that he didn't respect a contract that FRANK DILEO - his "manager" (yeah right) - signed "for him" and apparently there was a family tour and Janet's name was included.
Hasn't Janet suffered enough?

According to this article from 2008, she's not trying to place all the blame on others. http://www.foxnews.com/st...33,00.html Janet Jackson: "Don't Blame The SuperBowl." Janet Jackson does not blame the backlash from her 2004 Super Bowl appearance for her subsequent bad album sales.
Janet, the Jacksons' equivalent of Marilyn Munster, told me the other night that the CDs simply weren’t that good. Both "Damita Jo" and "Janet" were flops. Many people in the music biz attributed her sales decline to her "wardrobe malfunction." "Ms. Jackson" disagrees. "I think it was the music," she said when we talked about her upcoming album debut on Island DefJam, "Discipline." "The albums weren’t right," she added. The first track from "Discipline," titled "Feedback," was used as radio bait. The rest of "Discipline" — due on Feb. 26 — should undo the damage of her previous two outings, according to Jackson and her fiancé, Jermaine Dupri, who’s her main producer. She deserves it, too. Jackson is a lovely woman, far removed from her family’s craziness. In fact, she told me of her notorious brother: "I haven’t seen Michael in a long time." I was surprised reading another story about her this weekend in Parade. She admits to her father’s affairs and for the first time went on the record about the child he had with a mistress. Jackson insiders have known for years about Jovanni, Joseph Jackson’s youngest daughter who lives in Las Vegas. Something else we learned in the Parade piece: Jackson has a beautiful apartment in Manhattan. Good for her! They both apologized which I still think was bullshit because it was a damn nipple. I've seen longer nipple slips watching red carpet coverage for awards shows. People who are still mad about this stunt are just fucktards who need to grow up and get over a less than 3 second nipple slip. I saw Tara Reid's nipple for almost a full minute and I don't remember her being forced to apologize to anyone for it. It's a boob. Kids see them in text books at school...minus a nipple shield...but they still see naked boobs in schools all over the world everyday and in art museums. It's not like she flashed her twat, unlike a certain female pop star who seems to be forgiven no matter what she does. Maybe Janet should just say she has a mental illness and people will forgive her. Prince Rogers Nelson

Remember M pulled her American Life video because people were issuing death threats to her children over it. I'd say from 2002-2006 America was a bad place to try to push the envolop. I think that has more to do with the reaction she got than anything. Was the political climate. I agree. Plus, MJ was on trial at the time and people were already hating on the Jacksons so this just added fuel to the fire. All I know is that they both look shocked as hell when it happened and anybody who can act that surprised has taken some pretty good acting classes. Some1 needs 2 share that quote with Janet bcuz it's the reason she'll never again b what she once was. 4 some reason the growth just sorta stopped after Velvet Rope.
