Am I getttin old or 00 to 09 so far is..kind of lame?

I mean...we are approacing 2010...

I can think from 1990 to 1999 things changed ALOT. The music, the fashion..New Jack changed and got slow, then alternative took over..even country got more 'radio friendly'. Missy & Timbaland were changing the face of r&b and rap and pop music had an explosion of pop groups that sprouted in 1996...but 2000 to 2009...not alot can be said to me except for the same since 2000 almost.

I mean the 80's have came back in a big way recently..peopel copying Prince..but maybe a few more years have to go by b4 I really get the full scope of things...I know this auto tune mess has got to stop..it has been going on since 702's You Don't Know.

nah 4real...maybe I have to look at the spectrum more..but mainstream Casio r&b and rap have basically been the same...ringtone rap still hasnt died...unfortunatley

I remember that "jungle beat samples" rap music that lived from 1989 to 1996 (especially years 1992 to 1995) were excruciating...ugh....

the only musical movement that i really got excited about this decade was electroclash, and out of that trend i learned about new favorites like peaches, chicks on speed, ADULT., and miss kittin...the irony being that electroclash ended as soon as someone thought up a name for it, but at least some of the artists of the scene kept making music and developing beyond the trend. shrug

i can't say there's much more that is indigenous to this decade (and you could argue the above names aren't strictly from this decade) that i consider to be especially inspiring. i feel like we've had a series of disposable zeitgeists this decade, and nothing that really hit the hearts/minds/souls of folks of all ages.

that said, i don't think this decade totally sucks/sucked...but i think it will age poorly. lol

could be both. lol

seriously, it's hard for me to find anything exciting now days. i've been a listener for so long that it's rare for anything new music to come along and blow me away like it did in my teens and early 20's.

i'm actually diggin' on classical music at the moment. i just find it more engaging and stimulating. complex melodies, harmonies and arrangements, it's all there. i'm waiting on an explosion of classical orchestras, quartets and trio's to crop up fronted by enigmatic and self-destructive personalities.

I'm slowly moving away from music. I think once I see mj and go crazier than ever during a show and listening to music, I'm going to tone down a whole lot and not go out of my way to keep up with music anymore.

I think the mainstream music of this decade has been pretty lame, at least for me. However, thanks to the internet, I've discovered a lot of stuff that I love, and I rank this decade much higher than the 90s as a result.

I didn't think any decade could get any worse than the 1990s but the 2000-2009 definately is worse than the 1990s. The 90s mainstream was totally infested with shit hop but at least the gay clubs were playing some good house music. Nowadays, the gay clubs are just as dull and shit hop infested as the straight ones.

What used to be house turned into that acid trance type stuff. The white gay club in my area was playing that for a while in the early 00s but they've gone damn near all shit hop these days just like the black gay club.

For the most part I hear ya... Especially if we are taking about what is popular.

D'Angelo's Voodoo was a 2000 release right? I like that - and maybe some individual stuff from others (Kaskade's early work). I play the live Prince stuff quite often.

But certainly not like the period from 1975-1984. I LOVE soooo much stuff from that period.
We all want the stuff that's found in our wildest dreams.

Believe it or not i feel this decade leaves the 90's dead and buried and the dust by far, thats not saying this has been a good decade, thats just saying the 90's kinda blew

I have just found the 00's to be very boring overall. I enjoy a few artists from this decade and there has been some good music released, but overall i'm pretty underwhelmed for the most part. I don't really find any of these newer artists exciting at all to be honest. The entertainment and music industry is so bland to me these days.

The last person I went excited for was, Ms. Jill Scott. It's been hit and miss.... with a whole lot of miss when it comes to mainstream music. If it weren't for the net damn.... I'd be stuck way back there in early 80's.

1. You're not only getting older, but you're getting a lot wiser about your own musical taste.

2. Most of 2000's music isn't lame. It's f***ing wack and a lot worse than the 1990's.

But rave culture was force back underground after 2003 (as least here in the USA anyway). Unless you lived anywhere close to Miami, FL USA, electronic music isn't selling so well at the moment.

Are you kidding me?!? Most of the mainstream music right after 1993 started to die slowly (IMO). At least 88-93 was great for REAL rap/hip-hop. But latin freestyle, hip-house, dance-pop, chicago house, & miami bass were still putting up a great fight on mainstream radio until the end of 1995.

And I would know because Planet Soul were THE last dance club act to have a hit anywhere on Billboards Hot 100 (USA) Singles Charts with Set U Free.

compared to 70s 80s and 90s this decade has blown.

esp in terms of NEW artists that have debuted this decade and hit MASSIVE success...

I guess Kanye is the star to beat this decade. He's just ALRIGHT to me - not fanfuckingtastic or anything. ALL the artists who have emerged this decade who have been HUGE that are either 'ok' or god awful to me...

Rihanna
Nickelback
Justin Timberlake (as a solo artist)
Kelly Clarkson
Norah Jones
The Killers
Beyonce (as a solo artist)
The Jonas Brothers
Pink
Taylor Swift
Miley Cyrus
Lil Wayne
Lil Jon
T-Pain
Lady Gaga
Ne-Yo

I only bolded Pink because she is GREAT. Just stellar. Didn't buy her last two albums, as I'm more and R&B fan than pop/rock but her vocals, her packaging and her artistry are ON POINT. That's why she's so big internationally and STILL packs number 1 hits in the US.

Also bolded Ne-Yo because, well...I'm a fan.

All the others...for real, Beyonce - take it or leave it. Ditto Rihanna, T-Pain...can't STAND Kelly or Justin...i dunno. If you look at the biggest superstar acts that have come out since 2000...it really sucks compared to Michael, Madonna, Tina, Aretha, Diana, Prince, EWF, Metallica, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Janet, Salt N Pepa, Run DMC, TLC, Cyndi Lauper, Tori Amos, Alanis, Dire Straits, Eurythmics, Sade, Dre, Snoop, Sheryl Crow, Ice Cube, LL Cool J, B.I.G., Duran Duran, the Go Gos, B52s, hell even U2.... etc. These artists above have no great songs or significant bodies of work!
