You know Mistermaxx, Cameo is one of my favorite bands of all time, but I rarely play these two tracks. Cameo made thinkin man's funk, with complex changes and unorthodox bridges. To me, Larry Blackmon is one of the most underrated producer/writers in the history of funk music.
SOME OF MY FAVORITE JAMS BY CAMEO... Rigor Mortis... My pick for one of the top 5 FUNKIEST jams EVER...AS IN ALL TIME!!!Larry always had a history of finding some fierce bassists and incorporating them into his unique brand of funk and soul. This time William Revis gets the call in bass and he is vicious. This track is a monumental funk throwdown masterwork Just Be Yourself..One of my top favorite songs of 1982. I used to jam this hard. Michael Burdett is on bass this time and he is cutting up. Great song..seriously funky music!!! Skin I'm In...One of the best written songs the funk genre produced. This is from their 1988 album..Machismo.

Some of my favorite Cameo jams...
***"Sparkle"(1979)---This is one of my favorite slow jams of all-time. ***"Just Be Yourself"(1982)---As Bro915 pointed out,the bass on this song has a life of it's own! ***"Alligator woman"(1982)---Shame on MTV for not playing the video for this song! It's very New Wave/pop,and unlike anything they had done previously. The lyrics are outrageous..."I must confess, you're a mess...you make me hot, with what you got...YOUR BIG BEHIND,it makes me blind...I must be gross, but you're the most". ***"Style"(1983)---This song was a minor hit for Cameo, but it's a great song.I've always felt that Ready For The World stole the music from this song for their own hit "Oh Sheila".The synth riffs are identical. ***"Don't Be So Cool"(1981)---I love the spoken lines by Nona Hendrix, who plays a spoiled rich girl on this tune. It's incredibly funky, with the humor and attitude that you expect from Cameo. ***"Freaky Dancin"(1981)---Oh man, back in '81,I used to JAM to this song!! This groove is WILD!! ***"She's Strange"(1983)---Does anyone remember the cool video for this jam? ***"Attack Me With Your Love"(1985)---Another winning Cameo jam.Around this period, their videos became more extravagant and interesting. The video for this song (as well as it's follow-up "The Single Life") is great!

***"She's Strange"(1983)---Does anyone remember the cool video for this jam? Yeah...I remember this video. It was a cool video. Maybe we ought to run a thread on some old school early 80's r&B/funk videos like Ray Parker Jr. "The Other Woman"(that was a favorite of mine, Cameo's "Flirt". I used to love this one as well, and RIck James's "Give It To Me Baby". These videos were low budget promotional videos but they were still good. I'd rather watch some of these videos over what MTV,VH-1 and BET are playing nowadays.
