Grace Jones. Just got Jonesed! Just got a package of 3 CDs and a DVD ("Vamp") from her. The CDs were her classics with Sly and Robbie (I thought they were producers, though...surpsied to see to other guys were the producers unless those are fake names) "Warm Leatherette" and "Nightclubbing" and the new "Hurricane". The nearly listened to the entire new album and it is something. Really personal and sounding awesome and full typical Jones edge (but she's got the "Williams Blood" in her....Lisa and Wendy co-writing). Haven't watched "Vamp" but I couldn't resist making it an all Grace Jones order since the movie only cost $3.99...it would cost that much to rent it at most places! These will probably be the only 3 CDs I'll be listening to while studying for my MA. I've got the Jones!

The new album - Hurricane - is excellent. There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. Memories shared serve each one differently

I wonder when. I know Grace worked on an unreleased album produced by Trevor Horn , just like W&L, back in the day. Could it be that old?

I also got a hold of Hurricane. The only other Grace Album I have is Inside Story. Um...let me say that this is way above and beyond that! I am not exactly sure what her style is supposed to be, but this is certainly Grace through and through.
I have heard that the album sorta peters out in the middle and I disagree with that. I think it remains intact and is very solid. Sure all of the songs aren't creepy and forboding, but if they all were I think the album would have been a bit much. I love the songs.. This Is, Williams Blood, Corporate Cannibal, Hurricane, and I love you to Life. I do have to say this is a very inspiring album for me as a song writer. I have been having trouble figuring out a song on my next album (which is almost finished). Her delivery and execution of her vocals is pretty flawless. Christian Zombie Vampires

I have to get on some other stuff of hers. I have and love 'Slave To The Rhythm', but I only got it because of my unhealthy obsession with all things Trevor Horn.

"Slave to Love" isn't even close to her best album. Warm Leatherette, Nightclubbing and Living My Life are masterpieces. There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. Memories shared serve each one differently

"slave to love"? though i agree with the three albums you listed. those are the biggies for grace. i like the trevor horn one too, and when in the right mood, i can have a good time with "inside story". that "bulletproof heart" mess, though...

"Bulletproof Heart" is available new on Tower.com real cheap (I think "Inside Story" is too) but I decided to go for two of the classics and of course "Hurricane", is probably my favorite of the three. The new songs are almost all killers. The only sort of disapointment is "Well, Well, Well" and that sounds like a track from her earlier albums. The only reason I would consider it a let down is because it feels like a pop song (even though the style is her classic regaee meets new wave) but it's sort and sort of just there. All the other songs are real epics, don't you think? "Williams' Blood" is amazing. "Mother's Tears" is emotional. "Hurricane" starts slow but is amazing! "Corporate Cannibal" at first didn't do it for me without the video but it caught on after a while because the lyrics are so great and so is the sound. Both of the classic albums are killing me, too. The original track "Bullshit" is so damn catchy...if it weren't for the title, it could have made a great single. Grace really should have been the most popular black rock star in the world! I noticed no talk about her first three disco albums. They sound awful musically compared to the new wave/regaee trilogy, although the album covers look cool. [Edited 11/11/08 22:28pm]
