MJ may be "dead" as you say, but I am a teacher and ALL the kids know who MJ is. None of them has ever heard of Prince.

I wonder if any of that has to do with the trial. If you think about it, it was well publicized and I am sure their parents probably talked about it.

I think there are quite a few pop stars around. One of my favorites is MIKA and I can't wait for his next album to drop. He is very talented and a very good performer.

Well, I teach at an elementary school, so from 6 to 15.

Well, yeah, they might know him becaues of the trial also, but even without it, his name is just so known really.
But Prince has never been very popular in my country, even at his peak. I don´t know why, but I´ve never met a Prince fan over here. On the net, maybe, but not in real life.

I remember the last year there was a 15 year old boy in my class. He might have been the oldest, but 14 definately. Well, each state has different school system.

Yeah because from where I'm at if you were in elementary school and you're 14, 15 years old, then you were let back by the entire system! lol

SO how does it work in your country?
Well, in mine, you start at the age of 6 in first class. There are nine classes so you end by the age of 14 (15 if you started school on year later for some reasons or if you had to repeat a class failing some subjects) and than you go to the secondary school, which usually is for 4 years, so you end at the age of 18. There are some schools where you may finish at the age of 16 or 17, but you won´t get your "A-levels" or whatever you call it at these type of schools.

Elementary school is from kindergarten (age 5) to fifth grade (age 11).
Middle school is from sixth grade (age 11) to eighth grade (age 14).
High school is from ninth grade (age 14) to twelfth grade (age 18).

OK, so we probably also just call things differently. Becaue our elementary school is divided into "two parts". the "lower level" 1 - 5 grade (age 6 - 10) and 6 - 9 grade is the "upper level". But usually you do both levels in one building.

I wouldn’t imagine many 6 or 10 year olds being into Prince. MJ is just up their alley.

Popular or not Prince doesn’t really appeal to kids. But he’s definitely alive and kicking.

Mika - is that the guy who sings Grace Kelly? If so, I do not know many of his songs, BUT check this out. I´ve already posted it here on the org once, but it´s phenomenal. It´s an "Idol" Czech finalist singing Grace Kelly live in a wonderful way - even better than Mika and that´s a tough song to sing. I totally loved that guy and I can´t wait for HIS album, if he ever releases one, but I bet he will.

Of course, I know, but I don´t think that many adults who aren´t into music might remember him. At least I am sure about people my age in their late 20s.

He's actually quite good. If you had ever seen him perform, you'd understand. And while his music didn't take off in the states, he's HUGE around the world.

You may think I am crazy, but I think he could be the next big pop star out there. I say this because of the way he performs, how prolific he is, the fact that he released 6 songs of the debut album each with a really great video (and all on 45 too), is super positive and has really great energy about him. Time will tell, but I have een looking forward for album number 2 since album number one.
