hate to say it...but I love 'Blackout' by Britney

boxed boxed boxed boxed boxed

i must admit - i probably listen to this album every day - not the whole thing, but several tracks. i love 'break the ice.' that could be the best pop song of the past few years IMO. and the production on the record is solid - danja, timabaland, whoever the fuck it is, it's stellar. fantastic hip hop and techno infused pop. top notch. it's the only album of hers i've ever liked. the vocals are throw away, but who cares. in fact, it's so anonymous...cold...it's almost like the Erotica of 2008. i hate to say it...but i think it may be better than Hard Candy. anyone else on here a closet lover of this CD?

break the ice
hot as ice
ooh ooh baby
radar
gimme more
piece of me
toy soldier
freakshow

...are all great!
I'll leave it alone babe...just be me

I really warmed up to this album. It's sterile, but a great pop record.

It's much better than Hard Candy.

And it has some very good b-sides like
Love is a State of Grace or Get Back.

Good Pop record.

What's that face for? lol. Rushing07 is right. Blackout is better than Hard Candy. Hard Candy has some good songs, but most of it is forgettable. I hardly even listen to HC these days whereas I'm still listening to Blackout.
"And When The Groove Is Dead And Gone, You Know That Love Survives, So We Can Rock Forever" RIP MJ heart

IF HC has a saving grace - it's that it has some funk. Madonna got FONKY on a COUPLE tracks, and for that it's a solid effort. But Blackout is more consistent, stronger songs, and more shameless fun.

I just feel like she was just a puppet on all the tracks even Why Should I Be Sad...which wasnt even written by her though it is about Kev. The songs dont stick or have a real groove...(the bass is what Im hittin on the BASS)...i guess i like the 80's style'd funk and retro pop that was on Madonna's album, more than the Mindless club songs on Blackout. They were so wrong for not realeasing Radar or (the one New Wave song cant remember the title).

How is Hard Candy, which panders to all the trends and hitmakers on American radio, an adventurous album? For that matter, how is it more adventurous than Erotica or even American Life question I think that's a whole other thread, though.

I get what you are saying. I think it's adventurous as the album is not typical madonna. Yes it's mainstream, but she could have chosen a completely different route to do that. The songs are pretty complex and odd. Songs like Hard Candy, Incredible and Even 4 minutes are not your typical Madonna.

I didn't find AL to be adventurous...risky as she took a completely different route than most of her albums. I'd say that Erotica was a good mix of risky vs adventurous as not only was she moving into different territory (there was a definite shift between LAP and Erotica) but being quite risque at the time.

Ok since this is treading on britneys territory lol Ill keep it short...Madonna's not known for working with urban producers for one, she hasnt done anything with funk / soul since....Bedtime Stories (kind of) or "Shoo be Doo" or "Lucky Star". Shes been just treading on electro pop over and over and over for 3 albums straight and then broke free and gave Americans what we like...and still catered to her fanbase (Voices, Miles Away, Shes Not Me, Give It To Me, The Beat Goes On are Pure Maddy)

Ironically Britney gave us what Americans don't like (Euro dance-pop) and sold more in the U.S. Go figure lol

Blackout is trashy club fun, devoid of any any depth (albeit Why Should I Be Sad addresses some of the issues between she and Kevin) that comes together because of those in the background seemingly pulling all the right strings for Britney to maneuver about even as her personal life headed in a downward spiral.

Best American pop album of '07.

It's a totally disposable, but enjoyable pop record- definitely the best that I've heard (only this and the previous one). I actually fucking adore "Gimme More", and quite like "Heaven on Earth", "Radar", and "Break the Ice". And it is better than Hard Candy! But then again, what isn't?!

I think Blackout is a really fucking good album. Britney proved herself as a serious artist on this one in my opinion, she's done with all that cookiecutter teenybop shit. Blackout has some serious grooves and great songwriting.

That's true. Even on songs I like such as "Heaven on Earth", she sounds completely out of it or bored. I've never been less convinced by someone singing "I'm in love with you" than I am on that song- poor girl sounds like she can't muster up enough energy to love anything. sad

I think that was the issue I had the most with it. Very sterile and cold with a lack of some good simple pop hooks and decent songwriting (seemed like most songs only had two verses and couldn't end fast enough). A good dance record, maybe. I think that something like "Hot As Ice" manages to capture some decent pop writing/production and is the standout track by far. Reminds me of old Britney. Very hooky.
