i heard blackout and i was surprised at how much fun it was.

i mean, first off, it's not a britney spears album. it's an album by her PRODUCERS, and she just warbles over whatever they came up with for her.

the production is great. it's good trashy dance music.

as for her contribution, it's meltdown-era britney at her pro-tooled best. if you don't take her seriously, you might actually find yourself enjoying her dumbass lyrics and distorted-beyond-belief vocals.

i had a lot more fun listening to this album than trying to sit through hard candy. i'm glad someone said it before me, cuz it's true. lol

You know what's wild, I've heard most of the tracks off Blackout sheerly because I go clubbing too much. loll I don't even own the album. I was previewing it on iTunes and instantly knew most of the album from hearing DJs constantly spin it at nightclubs.

Folks should overlook all the bullshit and image issues b/c the album does have some true bangers on it. Just like dancerella was saying a while back, the shit is bumpin IN A CLUB SETTING.

To be 100, FOLKS HATED on "Gimme More" because it was It-thing to do last fall. But if you hit up a nightspot, everyone always jammed off that track regardless.

If you just took Brit's vocals off Gimme More and just let the beat ride THE INSTRUMENTAL TO THAT SHIT ALONE IS A BANGER. The way the synths glow and punctuate in the right places -- and the whole dark bent -- is throwwwwed! It's like lazerdance.

The Blackout album in some ways reminds me of the lashing Robbie's Rudebox LP got because that record, too, had some producers putting in WORK on the beats, but got clouded by the artist's image. Really dope cats like Mark Ronson, Dave Taylor, Soul Mekanik, Chicken Lips and Joey Negro put in work on that project and folks were too busy on their hater game to even notice.

Never been a closet fan of this album because it's fantastic.

The only Britney album I can play the whole way through, although I usually skip Toy Soldier. That tracks too obnoxious and snooty for me.

I think her writers did a good job of accurately capturing her as she is/was at that time of her life. A lot of people call the album anonymous or cold but to me, its her most truthful album yet.

It's weird cuz my favourite track Heaven on Earth, is probably the most unlikely situation she's been in in the last year or two - happy and in love. I'm still confused as to why she put it on such a loud and obnoxious album. She did say in a radio interview last year that it was her own favourite track on the album so that probably had something to do with it.

And for all the talk of her lack of vocal ability, while her voice was never "strong" like Christina's - it was and still is unique.

What's not to like in her vocals at the end of Heaven on Earth? Or her sexy/sweet vocals in Perfect Lover?

She has a fantastic falsetto in Break The Ice and a very solid vocal in Hot as Ice and Ooh Ooh Baby.

I don't get why people are so hard on her voice. It's always been about subtlety and unique sounds rather than "WOAAAAAHHHHH!!!!"

If you listen to the demos on youtube for each track, there's really not all that much difference between the untouched demos and the finished tracks. Except for Hot As Ice (demo called Cold as Fire) but I think she was deliberately singing stupid on that one lol

"Blackout" is hot as fuck for what it is - but you got be kidding! eek Britney didn't have a hand in ANYTHING from the writing, production, down to the infamous "It's Britney bitch" quote that she said Danja told her to say. confused Anyway, I'll still be looking out for her follow-up. cool

Blackout is trashy club fun, devoid of any any depth (albeit Why Should I Be Sad addresses some of the issues between she and Kevin) that comes together because of those in the background seemingly pulling all the right strings for Britney to maneuver about even as her personal life headed in a downward spiral.

Best American pop album of '07.

I'm sure she had final veto over what she sang, what producers she used and what tracks she wanted on the album, and that alone gives her more worth to me.

How is Hard Candy, which panders to all the trends and hitmakers on American radio, an adventurous album? For that matter, how is it more adventurous than Erotica or even American Life question I think that's a whole other thread, though.

I get what you are saying. I think it's adventurous as the album is not typical madonna. Yes it's mainstream, but she could have chosen a completely different route to do that. The songs are pretty complex and odd. Songs like Hard Candy, Incredible and Even 4 minutes are not your typical Madonna.

I didn't find AL to be adventurous...risky as she took a completely different route than most of her albums. I'd say that Erotica was a good mix of risky vs adventurous as not only was she moving into different territory (there was a definite shift between LAP and Erotica) but being quite risque at the time.

Ok since this is treading on britneys territory lol Ill keep it short...Madonna's not known for working with urban producers for one, she hasnt done anything with funk / soul since....Bedtime Stories (kind of) or "Shoo be Doo" or "Lucky Star". Shes been just treading on electro pop over and over and over for 3 albums straight and then broke free and gave Americans what we like...and still catered to her fanbase (Voices, Miles Away, Shes Not Me, Give It To Me, The Beat Goes On are Pure Maddy)

Ironically Britney gave us what Americans don't like (Euro dance-pop) and sold more in the U.S. Go figure lol

Aint that some shit giggle

Every1 hated on this album when it first came out BAD. I think its the best in her catologue..maybe right before OOps I Did It Again. However I dont think Hard Candy has warmed up 2 alot of people still...well let it cool down.

The thing is all records now with the HIP producers are cold and empty, listen to the Duran Duran record and see how "Production" can suck the life out of a band. But with certain things it works, and Britney has something that can seperate her from the Rihanna's of the world. Even out of her mind, and off the deep end, she made better records than all the female divas put together. Its close to being her best to me, though "In the zone" is still hard to beat, and it was the album that inspired everyone from Justin to Christina to mix their albums up and not just be straightforward teen pop.

As for singles the original plan was for 5, the other two were to be "Radar" and "Toy Soldier" but it looks like those plans are not happening and she is working on a new record. And i know people feel the album didnt sell, well compared to her others nothing has sold, and neither has any other artist that has had albums sell 7-10 million, its just not logical that she or anyone else will even see a fraction of that nowadays. But she outsold other artists that had more "singles" more "positive press" and 20-40 million in promo.

though i agree on the PRODUCERS front, you have to include every artist nowadays that gets produced by the beatmakers, that goes from Duran Duran all the way to Britney.

Have to disagree, though it might be on par with "astronaut" though quite different, its nowhere near as good as "pop trash" from 2000. Duran Duran needs Warren back in the band FAST and im not the only one saying this. Even he wasnt in the band till "Notorious" he was the edge that kept that group afloat.

Yes I don't understand why people are ashamed of liking Blackout. Ive told everybody I like the album and they too have grown fond of the idea of listing to Britney. It the best album of 07 and possibly 08, as I haven't heard and I doubt any pop album could top it. Truly a fun listen. It's an album that both Madonna and Janet wish they had done.

Well mainly because its Britney and she was a "teen pop" star so some people feel that they cant ever like anything by her because its "Britney". Funny how it came the same year of Hilary Duffs "Dignity" record which to me is the best POP record of the year and still i havent tired of any of it. The funny thing is that no one admits or posts that they like that album but when mentioned everyone jumps in and says "yeah that was a great POP record"

Pop Trash is to Duran Duran what Chaos and Disorder was to Prince and what Full Moon Dirty Hearts was to Inxs. It was their "F.U" albums to their labels, though in Durans case it was a one-off album with "Hollywood Records" the ironic thing was that they left the label as the album came out. I dont mind Astronaut for the most part and a few songs on Red Carpet, but Duran is lacking something now for the first time in their history, it will be interesting to see where they go next, im hearing their out with Sony, so yet another change for Duran.
