New Order box set!

I am so fucking excited about this. It looks like the perfect companion to Joy Division's Heart and Soul from a few years back. If it's anything like that, the remastering and artwork will be brilliant and essential. I already love the cover. It's set for release in the US on Dec 17 and Dec 2 in Europe. Here's what I could dig up. From www.nme.com:

NEW ORDER have allowed four different fans to compile the tracklisting for their forthcoming box set 'RETRO'.

Each fan has compiled a separate CD - Journalists Miranda Sawyer and John McReady have each put together a CD of favourite tracks, former Hacienda DJ Mike Pickering is responsible for the remix CD, while Primal Scream's Bobby Gillespie takes care of the live CD.

The box set is scheduled for release on December 2.

The full tracklisting is:

Also, there's a lot of information on www.neworderonline.com:

British new wave pioneers and authors of the legendary "Blue Monday" will soon be the object of a luxuous compilation taking care of a good 21 years career.

Titled "Retro", this disc claimed by fans since a long time, should be available at the beginning of November. A Digipak version, only available in a limited number, will contain, along with the band's classics ("Ceremony", "Blue Monday", "Perfect Kiss", "Crystal", "Thieves Like Us"), 5 rare tracks recorded in the Power, Corruption and Lies sessions.

Another gift for the fans : a 12" single containing two remixes from techno legend Kevin Saunderson and Arthur Baker, the producer who launched Afrika Bambâatâa's career.

They're releasing a new greatest hits and a live dvd with (count 'em) 6 performances of them doing Joy Division songs. That should be surreal to say the least. Here's what I could find about these releases:

Finsbury Park DVD artwork revealed!
Oct 30, 13:39 EDT

The artwork for the upcoming live DVD Finsbury Park 2002 is now available. The DVD is scheduled to be released in the UK on December 2nd 2002.

The tracklisting is the following:
Crystal, Transmission, Regret, Ceremony, 60 Miles An Hour, Atmosphere, Brutal, Close Range, She's Lost Control, Bizarre Love Triangle, True Faith, Love Will Tear Us Apart, Digital, Blue Monday

The DVD should feature an additional 40 minutes documentary featuring some tracks like Turn My Way (Live at the Liverpool Olympia), tracks from the Temptation concert at the Ally Pally in 1998, and other tracks from the comeback concert at the Apollo 1998 like Ceremony and In A Lonely Place.

it's called "International (Best Of)", it's not called "The Greatest Hits".

The first CD has the same tracklisting as the UK release, but the 2nd CD contains the following tracks.

Second CD is :

1) Temptation 87
2) Lonesome Tonight
3) Fine Time (Silk Mix)
4) Round & Round (Extended Version) Mislabeled as Saunderson 12" mix
5) Let's Go (UK fade-out version from the Nineteen63 single / not the US best of one)

I seriously can't wait for all this stuff. This might be the best season for new releases ever!

World is on the live disc though. I don't have any complaints. Substance and The Best of New Order have already done a great job at collecting their biggest hits and singles. This is more for the die-hards.

This has most of their other hits on it and "Vanishing Point" wasn't even a single! Oh well, I'm sure it will be fantastic. I just wished they would have axed "Confusion" instead.

Yeah, there are several studio songs that we put on our compilation that didn't make it. But it's okay. That's what cdr's are for. wink I had some major complaints with the new U2 best of when I first saw the tracklist but now I like it. No collection will be exactly as I would make it. I've learned to live with that sad fact.
