I just love Con Funk Shun. When Michael Cooper broke away and went solo with his album, i don't remember the name but it had Oceans Wide, With The Quickness and Dinner For Two. OMG!! And his second album had my jam, My Babys House!

By the way, Con Funk Shun had an album out in the mid eighties I wanna say the name was Electric Lady. Anybody remember that. It was aiight, but it had a standout single, I wanna say it had "STAR" in the title.

Another of Coop's solo hits I dug was "To Prove My Love".

I believe the song you are talking about is "She's A Star" from the 'Burnin' Love' LP...

There are so many Con Funk Shun tunes I dig.

Con Funk Shun is one of those bands who will never be as highly regarded as many of the other funk bands of its era, but when you stack up the music it compares nicely with many of those same bands.

Yeah i bought that 7 remastered cd 2 years ago and it is tight.
Bad Lady,i'll take you back,If you're in need,straight from the heart,
and body lovers. Spirit of Love album is hot too. I remember i bought that
album when i was in the 8th grade and played it to death. It is probably my
favorite confunkshun album. I have all their albums but secrets and fever.
One of my favorite cuts by the band is Ms.got the body

Ms got the body like a sweet cold wine.
Ms got the body she drives me out my mind.
Ms got the body to love.

Confunkshun is one of my five favorite bands of all time. Like someone else
said they aren't highly regarded like some of the other bands but when you
stack up their music against the big dogs they don't take a back seat.

IMO, I feel it's because Con Funk Shun had some stylistic similarities to Cameo. Con Funk Shun didn't have that element of that outrageousness that Cameo possessed -- I always considered Con Funk Shun some cross between Brick's polish and Cameo's urgency -- but Cameo more or less evolved and moved out to the forefront (it didn't help when Michael Cooper started coming off like Larry Blackmon lite on songs like "Electric Lady").

Any way, here are my favorite Con Funk Shun songs, in no particular order:

* Got to Be Enough

* Chase Me

* Ffun

* Love's Train

* Ms. Got-the-Body

* Baby I'm Hooked (Right into Your Love)

* Shake and Dance with Me

* California 1

* Too Tight

'7' is one of their strongest albums."Body Lovers" is an 80s funk masterpiece and the slow jam "Straight From The Heart" is a standout.The album also includes the brilliant "California 1",a Santana-styled,latin rock-influenced song with lots of great guitar.

Spirit of Love album is hot too. I remember i bought that

It's hard for me to pick a favorite Con Funk Shun album but 'Spirit Of Love' would have to be near the top of my list.I love the slow jam "By Your Side".That's what was so great about these guys...they could do the funkiest uptempo jams and then turn around and give you the most incredible slow jams too.

headbang 'To The Max' is another superb album.

It's a shame that they didn't get the same level of recognition as other bands like Cameo,EW&F and Kool and The Gang.I think their catalog is just as impressive.

It's really probably the other way around. Confunkshun was out there before
cameo. Michael Cooper always had the oww thing before larry blackmon.
Confunkshun was on the memphis/stax circuit with the barkays before both
bands became labelmates on mercury/polygram around 1976. Over the years particularly the early to mid 80's cameo's popularity just happened to soar
as larry blackmon took advantage of all the media outlets available to promote cameo i.e videos and downsizing the band. You can count on one hand the number of music videos confunkshun has compared to cameo. As far as electric lady goes, that was more or less a direction that the record label wanted the group to try as they bought in whodini's producer larry smith in and maurice starr
on that album but if you listen to i'm leavin baby that was classic micheal cooper and confunkshun which was far more polished than anything cameo's done.
Don't get me wrong cameo had some nice slow jams but imo i don't think they can
touch confunkshun's catalog of slow jams even some of the lesser known ones.
Don't laugh at my funk

Actually, both Con Funk Shun ("Sho Feels Good to Me," debuting the week of Jan. 29, 1977) and Cameo ("Rigor Mortis," Jan. 22, 1977) had their first charted singles at the same time, according to Joel Whitburn's "Top R&B/Hit Singles."

Both acts were fairly similar (though Cameo leaned more to hardcore funk) until Cameo started changing its sound in the early 1980s and Con Funk Shun stayed mostly locked into its style. Given that both acts came around at the same time, I don't quite agree with the Michael Cooper/Larry Blackmon argument (besides, it's fair to say both were fans of The Ohio Players' Leroy "Sugarfoot" Bonner), but it is fair to say Cooper was channeling the Blackmon vibe beyond "Electric Lady" (his lead solo hit, "To Prove My Love"). It's not an issue of the "Oww" thing, but it's appparent on "Electric Lady" that Cooper was trying to give off Blackmon's vibe in "She's Strange."

I also agree about the ballads competition between Cameo and Con Funk Shun. Cameo's catalog is fine, but songs like "Love Train," "Baby I'm Hooked (Right Into Your Love)" and "Straight from the Heart" are simply outstanding songs.
