One is a rock song and the other is funk. Why the comparison?

"Flashlight" and "Tear the Roof of the Sucker (We Want the Funk)" are more or just as well known as One Nation.

Player,..what in the world does Obama, Hillary or whoever else has to do with this topic? To answer your question...I can't compare the two. Entirely two different types of jams. Now if u had said "Undisco Kidd vs One Nation" then I could get with it. Maggot Brain is out there all alone. Nothing else like it. A stone masterpiece, I believe. One Nation was paramount too. It was a huge hit. Just shows the versatility of Funkadelic more than anything.

Preach! Testify on the Funk. If the Politics one is speakng on don't have bass and groove to make the butt move then, it don't have a place in this forum. Otherwise it keep moving.dancing jig

Ah, but there are differences. For example, Bootsy's bass lines were mostly used for Parliament tracks, cause he was more funk than rock.
It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

I know there are differences that's why I said "basically", meaning there may have been different musician used here and there.

Well, they were basically 'one' outfit, but they were divided between the Parliament cats and the Funkadelic cats. So yes, they were the same band, but not quite.
Anyways, I get your point wink

You are aware he has credits on Funkadelic records from that same period? eek
Anyways in his later years, Bootsy rocked plenty out on projects with Bill Laswell and Buckethead.

PLEASE don't get me started on Bootsy and rock. My band Amalgam opened up for Bootsy in 94 at the House of Blues in Hollywood. No, I didn't get to meet Bootsy which was a hella triple drag but I heard he dug our set from his guitarist at the time, Dee Dee, who used to play in the Jesse produced band Da'Krash. But I read an interview on Bootsy years ago where Bootsy stated that all of his bass lines, especially on his early solo albums, Bootsy wrote on the guitar FIRST. Cuz Bootsy plays guitar and drums as well. I wasn't surprised by that at all cuz I could easily tell because Bootsy always played "riffs" as oppossed to standard bass lines. "Another Point of View" is a great example of this. They're rock riffs played on a bass running through a Mutron that gives it it's "stank". Plus the way Bootsy slangs on the bass. "Slangin" is my word for throwing down on the bass. By the time Bootsy is finished draggin the notes and poppin' and thumpin', especially when it's ran through a Mutron or an Echoplex, then it's going to sound funky. But many of his lines are rock guitar riffs just phased out on a bass. That's why usually live, Bootsy always double the rock guitars with the bass in unison. Because they are coming from the same place. And take Bootsy jams like Muchies For Your Love. Bootsy is basically soloing on his bass like a rock guitarist would. Especially live, he runs his bass through a grip of wah wah and distortion guitar effects and solos during the song. Point is, as much as Bootsy is funk, he's always been just as rock.

Just to make it clear, I'm not disputing the fact that Bootsy can rock out, I just feel the funk comes more naturally to him in some way smile
