No, I didn't get to meet Bootsy which was a hella triple drag but I heard he dug our set from his guitarist at the time, Dee Dee, who used to play in the Jesse produced band Da'Krash. But I read an interview on Bootsy years ago where Bootsy stated that all of his bass lines, especially on his early solo albums, Bootsy wrote on the guitar FIRST. Cuz Bootsy plays guitar and drums as well. I wasn't surprised by that at all cuz I could easily tell because Bootsy always played "riffs" as oppossed to standard bass lines. "Another Point of View" is a great example of this. They're rock riffs played on a bass running through a Mutron that gives it it's "stank". Plus the way Bootsy slangs on the bass. "Slangin" is my word for throwing down on the bass. By the time Bootsy is finished draggin the notes and poppin' and thumpin', especially when it's ran through a Mutron or an Echoplex, then it's going to sound funky. But many of his lines are rock guitar riffs just phased out on a bass. That's why usually live, Bootsy always double the rock guitars with the bass in unison. Because they are coming from the same place. And take Bootsy jams like Muchies For Your Love. Bootsy is basically soloing on his bass like a rock guitarist would. Especially live, he runs his bass through a grip of wah wah and distortion guitar effects and solos during the song. Point is, as much as Bootsy is funk, he's always been just as rock.
