from searching online 'gone again' seems to be most accessable one?

HORSES

you should try "land", which is the closest you can get to a "best of" compilation. it'll give you a taste of everything, both old and newer, plus it has a smattering of rarities, live recordings, and even a cover of a prince song.

if you want to go with the proper albums, "horses" is essential but i have to admit i prefer "easter". as already mentioned, "gone again" is a beautiful album, even if it is pretty downbeat and dark. i find it comforting, actually. i like a lot of her latter-day work. "peace and noise" and "trampin" are nice records.

the only one i wouldn't recommend is her latest, "twelve", which is a covers album and has some nice moments, but overall it's kind of tepid.

"Horses"...or the compilation "Land" to get an idea of her output, but buy "Horses" anyway- it's a great album that everyone should own.
