Gone Again is far from accessible but a very accomplished record nonetheless. It is however a very downbeat affair as the record is mostly about death. If you want accessible check out Gung Ho, though its overt politics might turn you off. Among her early albums of course you can't go wrong with Horses or any of the pre-Dream Of Life records, including the unjustly ignored Wave. I think the safest way however to get into her is thru 'trampin which is one of her most accessible and arguably the best among the her "comeback" releases. "Trespasses" and "Peacable Kingdom" are classics in my opinion.

you should try "land", which is the closest you can get to a "best of" compilation. it'll give you a taste of everything, both old and newer, plus it has a smattering of rarities, live recordings, and even a cover of a prince song.

if you want to go with the proper albums, "horses" is essential but i have to admit i prefer "easter". as already mentioned, "gone again" is a beautiful album, even if it is pretty downbeat and dark. i find it comforting, actually. i like a lot of her latter-day work. "peace and noise" and "trampin" are nice records.

the only one i wouldn't recommend is her latest, "twelve", which is a covers album and has some nice moments, but overall it's kind of tepid.

Horses is definitely the wisest choice for a studio album.

"Horses"...or the compilation "Land" to get an idea of her output, but buy "Horses" anyway- it's a great album that everyone should own.
