Astrud Gilberto

For the most part, I've really enjoyed this Winter, especially the holidays. And my birthday is coming up soon, so I'm looking forward to that too.

But lately, the cold, the storms and the giant tree that fell on my house are really kicking my ass. I'm over it. Enough already!

So I've needed something smooth, soothing and summery to get me by. I've been rocking this trio of albums lately.

And they're doing the trick. Her voice is so warm and light. And she keeps some pretty stellar musical company.

Anyone else dig her?

I've really hated this winter, so if this would make it better, maybe I'll check her out. All I really know is "Desafinado" with George Michael and "Girl from Ipanema" but I really love her voice.

Has she ever put out an album titled "DamitaJo"? wink

I'll come out of hibernation just to add that a couple days ago in a blinding blizzard along the shore of the Lake Huron, I searched my iPod for ANYTHING Summery and relaxing and found her. It was one of those white knuckle drives and her voice really worked wonders. I could almost imagine swimming in the warm August water ~ good thing I didn't slide into it!

Oooooohhh yeah... music

You should try listening to her step-daughter, Bebel Gilberto.

Her first release "Tanto Tempo" fuses electronica into the music to make it more lounge and ambient style. But her releases after that go a little more into traditional bossa nova direction lips

I'm not familiar with her.

According to legend, she's the person the song (The Girl from Ipanema) was supposedly written about.

loves me some bossa mr.green

astrud is lovely, as is bebel gilberto. i like all three of bebel's albums, and she seems to have a knack for finding really good people to remix her music, so you should check out bebel's remix stuff as well.

i love the economy of their voices. it's the perfect antidote from a day of being out in the world and hearing all the melismatic screeching of the top ten hit parade from hell.
