Taylor Hicks Dropped By J Records

Taylor Hicks has been given the Ruben Studdard treatment by J Records. Both American Idol winners have been dropped by the label in the past month. Ouch!

Entertainment Weekly is reporting that a label rep has said the following: "Taylor is going to record his next album on his own. He is no longer on the J Records roster."

I had totally forgotten all about Taylor Hicks lol Did he ever release an album in the first place?

Most of these American Idol "artists" are quickly forgotten after the hype dies down.Is anyone still buying albums by Fantasia?

U must mean winner, because some very talented people have graced the "Idol" stage. Many of them, though may not be recording music, have done well in plays (both on and off broadway) and as background artists.

Help me out 'Idol' fans...
Trenyce - Has done many stage plays for Tyler Perry, E. Lynn Harris, and David Talbert. All of these guys are big playrights in the black community.

Tamyra Gray - Released a solo project that went "stainless steel", but did manage to semi-save her career as a songwriter and actress. She has been in several movies and television shows...as well as is doing a broadway play (last I heard). She also co-wrote "I Believe" from Fantasia.

Josh Gracin - Successful country artist. First album went platinum and 2nd album went Gold.

George Huff - released a christian cd. Didn't do well, but is going the independent route for releasing music (last I heard).

LaToya London - in the Color Purple. Has been in the touring cast. Released an album that went "stainless steel".

Nadia Turner - touring in stage plays

Mario Vazquez - album went copper. Don't know if he was dropped by ARista or not. His 1st single was written and produced by Ne-Yo.

I'm sure there are more, but I can't think of them right now. My point is, many of them have talent, but they may not be cut out for the music business.

I kind of left her off on purpose, because she's a "star" like Kelly Clarkson and Fantasia.

also Katharine Mcphee, who lost to Hicks, her album went gold and was actually the only one of the Idols that i could listen too, on the ballad "Ordinary World" (not the duran duran song) she paired with Mariah's orignal songwriter/piano arranger and clearly showed what MARIAH needs back in her career. Also Katharine has 2 movies coming out, and signed a 7 figure deal with a fashion company and a company line called "sexy hair", and she is working on album 2.

She was pretty smart, she didn't sign with Arista. She signed with Atlantic. Now she may get dropped also, but I dont' see that happening now. Warner Music Group is good at keeping their artists for a while compared to Sony/Arista. Kimberly Locke is a good example of that. Her 1st album did OK. Her 2nd OK and she is still hanging in there. AC stations lover her.

I'm shocked. rolleyes

Some of these people realize that these shows are a connect and some are Taylor Hicks.

Regardless of what folk say about the sales, a lot of these kids years later are still working and doing well for themselves even if it's not Cristal status.

Jennifer Hudson could end up like a Taylor Hicks. She got lucky, but there are people like her every day that don't stay on their Tamyra grind and end up back home.

If u think about it, Taylor is a bar/blues singer. He'll never be more than that. The only reason he won is the same reason Ruben won...Birmingham really supports their hometown talent.

American Idol expectations are far too high. Each one is selling less and less and it's proving to be good exposure for some people and their careers (Kelly, Carrie, Jennifer and Daughtry) but not all. You can't seriously expect a guy like Taylor to sell in the millions. He might find an audience over time and even that's a gamble. The show is being taken more and more as the reality game show it truly is and not some star making machine. Those days are over.

His album was certified gold and platinum by the RIAA but Katherine Mcphee's wasn't.

"Good" sales don't matter when a company is dumping hella money into promoting you. It also doesn't help that his ass wasn't on the road.

Her label didnt submit her album to the RIAA for certification, the label has to do that on its own, and sometimes they do it right away and sometimes they dont, according to soundscan she is at 497,000 sold, which isnt gold, but the RIAA is going on what is shipped and she obviously has at least 3,000 copies out there somewhere, Taylor Hicks was certified for 1 million but didnt sell past 800,000.

Taylor was the one winner who I thought really didn't have any commercial appeal. He had appeal on the show in that he's very likable, but he's not a hot young singer.

I thought they made the right decision almost every other time.

Well i only saw the last show when this guy won and i was like What?? Are you kidding me? this is why this show cracks me up, because if you form a big clique you can push anyone through. Not to disrespect this guy, but at best he's a wanna-be lounge singer, i can almost guarantee his next album will be all covers because theres nothing you can do with him, hes a novelty at best. And when i talked to some AI fans they said when it came down to Hicks and Mcphee they voted for Hicks not because he could sing, but because they thought she was too "perfect" and stuck up. Which is why this show has no meaning at all, except being a good laugh at 95% of the people that try out.
