I think people really just miss the fact that all the POP artists do this at one point or another. Try to go after "todays" audience. I mean look at Prince rapping all through the 90's, having someone like EVE on his record, this coming from a guy who hated rap. Michael Jackson with remixes with Akon and Kanye West and Fergie, Madonna with JT and Timbaland, Mariah or Janet etc.. The point is they are trying to sell this product, a label is going to pair them with a whos hot at the moment producer to sound like everyone else and get them played, i mean just accept it. If you wanna have big deals and big promotion than you have to play this game. Now i know people dont wanna accept Janet or Mariah going after Ciara's audience or any other rb female of the month, but they are, because thats how the game is set up, there is no need to be different when you can use the same producers, video makers, etc..and be like everyone else. Its not diminishing people like Madonna,Janet,Mariah etc..because they are clearly more talented than the new jacks, but dont deny they are trying to sell to the "new jacks" audience because they are.

Cher and Paula Abdual are rather different people. Paula is either content or not motivated enough to record again and hasn't had charting singles in many years (hasn't made the attempt either).

Cher comes back every decade or so and can have a really good chart run of singles and albums. She also managed to have a massively succesful tour a few years back and if she wanted, could gain some crediblity as an actress.
