That's right. 2004 was Usher's year thanks to that kind of promotion. That would be incredible if lightning can strike again but this time for Janet in 2008.

EXACTLY!! EXACTLY!!!
Allot of folks that are hatin' on the song are really diggin' it and don't want to admit it, cause they were ready to slam her no matter what!
And, folks on the org and elsewhere can talk and talk about Janet going down the tubes since THE VELVET ROPE all they want. Jeez! The woman wrote about her pain and longing for love back then. She's happy now!
Some behave as if they want her to slip into another depression just to create art for them to enjoy.
Janet has said that she pleases herself FIRST where music is concerned. So, again folks on the org and elsewhere can talk and moan about how much more they where expected of Janet and how disappointed they are about her new single feedback. Well, she's a grown ass woman that's going to write and make the kind of music SHE chooses whether some like it or not. Hasn't her course(s) of action(s) proven this?
But, ya'll keep bitching and moaning while I enjoy that new cut! lol
Believe me, your complaints ain't gone change a damn thing!
But, again feel everso free to continue bitching and moaning! lol

Where did I say I'm unable to be satisfied? I don't mind discussions but it seems some fans get an attitude because other fans express certain dislikes. Or we get painted with the brush of a hater which you didn't specifically do here, but has been done along with the classic 'why do you come here' if you don't like something. Obviously you have the right to challenge or discuss whatever you want. My point is there's always going to be something to challenge and I suspect it would be a bit exhausting after awhile but of course, if that's what you want to do, fine.

In light of that, I think me questioning what happened with she and Basement Jaxx to a specific orger is infinitesimal as a whole but I thought your remark of "why don't I ask her" was pretty snippy especially from someone I've had no real exchange with. The end.

I didn't say you said you were not satisfied, "...if you're unable to be satisfied."
I don't have an attitude (if it's me you're referring to). I'm happy!
But, as far as why I come to the org? Well, I find that kinda' strange to be asked that question when I'm a Prince fan. And, I have every right to come to whatever web I choose the same as anyone else including yourself.
But, wait aminute! Isn't this what the org is about?
Musical tastes! Since, I've been a member folks left and right have challenged each other's opinions based on music and recording artists. But, if I'm to be singles out, then hey, good! I feel awfully special and thankful due to my opinions being read and reviewed.
Now, if there's something I disagree with like allot of org members I'm going to voice/say/write what I disagree with. That's my right the same as OTHER org members. I'm not going to stop doing that! lol
No doubt, Janet is overly critiqued and it is constantly said she should have done this or she should have done that. When in actuality it really doesn't matter what WE think (though we will continue to comment) on what she should've AND could've done cause she's gonna' what she wants ANYWAY!
And, VoicesCarry I'm not fighting. I'm discussing.
Everything is in place and going to stay that way.

And, on a musical note I'm glad that her new single is doing well already.
But, this is just one song. I mean, she did say that she had some stuff on this album with a message. Allot are judging an entire album on one song. Not saying ANY are doing that here. This song seems to be the talk of the web for the past couple days.

I didn’t actually ask you why you came to the Org. I was referring to those who ask why we come to a particular thread when we have opinions that go against the fan grain.

As you said, it doesn’t matter what we think and she like most celebrities are overly criticized. That’s not going to stop here but I have seen overzealous fans (on and off line) respond to simple comments as if they are personal attacks thus replying rudely. This happens quite often with Janet and Michael discussions so please excuse me if I read your response incorrectly.

Major artists are not going to have outstanding sales all of the time. That just doesn't happen, not even for you know who.
It's unrealistic. Times are changing. Music is changing, and not for the better.
The artist, well a true artist as far as I know is true to him or herself. Now, I know you're not a fan of his but Prince don't give a damn about allot of folks saying he should return to his old sound. He changed it and it doesn't in no way, shape, form or fashion hurt his performances. He's brilliant whether some are still feeling him like they use to or not.
In this instance, Janet is the same way.
I don't know of any artist that doesn't want the public to enjoy their efforts no matter how far they've fallen off of the charts. That doesn't mean they'll loose themselves entirely to being chart topper, especially if they've influenced up and comers.

Huh? I'm not sure what that's supposed to mean but yeah the song is pretty good, but it sounds like something from Britney Spears' "Blackout" album. The only difference here is that I bet if Britney was the one singing "Feedback" most people in here would have a TOTALLY different reaction to that song. They would be trashing it for sure and complaining that today's music sucks. I happen to think the song is hot no matter who sings it, but Janet is 41 years old and she's still talking about how sexy she is, I mean isn't it time for her to grow up and get beyond all that? She was moving in the right direction with "The Velvet Rope" but I don't know what happened after that.

Like I said, I think the song is catchy and it's gonna bring her back to where she needs to be in on the charts but it's nothing groundbreaking and will be forgotten soon. I just hope the rest of Janet's new album has more substance.

Nah actually I meant in getting a new song out and having it promote the right way. I didn't expect the song to be "revolutionary" but like you said it's catchy indeed. nod And also, the way Janet's previous songs were promoted were poor and actually ridiculous compared to how artists promote songs nowadays so Janet got the message that she should just "bring it to 'em" through anything that is a good outlet for promotion.

Well, a lot of orgers like Britney's album. I would say that I liked Gimme More, Break The Ice and Heaven on Earth, but that's it. I like Feedback a lot more since I think the production is actually very good, something that was lacking on a lot of Blackout.

See, I almost think of "Janet Jackson" as a band made up of Janet, JJ and TL. They were the directors of her image and sound, and as such, people have a hard time imagining her without them. And even though their time together has long since passed, it'll be their work that she's remembered for.

Exactly!

That's so what I've been trying to articulate.

Funny though, how JJ and TL have spent so much time sampling past works (often their own) on Janet's music. Janet's music with them has always been the perfect, postmodern, ahead of its time (but also a throwback - literally). They took self-harmonizing and industrial beats (not to mention a legitimate presence of funk) to a whole nother level in pop. It's Diana Ross meets The Time meets Prince meets New Jack Swing meets Michael Jackson. So yeah, the three of them basically created this sound - the Janet Jackson sound - so Janet without them is like a band broke up.

Madonna is totally a different story. She has switched up producers every album or two and hasnt really helped create any one sound. She has always tried so damn hard to sound relevant that every record immediately sounds dated after two years. I love her but - nothing about her songs scream 'classic' (save for a few, like Like A Prayer, Burning Up, Deeper and Deeper) the way Janet's early hits do.

Well, not exactly what I meant. More along the lines that Janet was the face for Jimmy and Terry's music; they were the "band" per se, and Janet's career rose or sank depending on their production and writing.

For better or worse, Madge has always kind of been on her own.

And, if anything, I'd say that both of their work has "dated". True Blue sounds very 1986, and if RN1814 isn't a product of 1989, I don't know what is.
I'm the first mammal to wear pants.

Well, Janet IS sexy, and at 41 I think it's cool to be confident in stating the obvious.

Not to go there and with no disrespect intended, but Madonna sang about waiting for phones calls and going to the disco at 48? How old was she when she released Music? I remember that video: wasn't she pregnant and going to the disco with strippers dancing in her face? What's the difference? I know she had some more serious topics, too, but maybe Janet has included some serious stuff on this cd. We'll just have to wait and see.

Feedback is what it is. It's a good dance song. It's fun, but unlike a lot of her past work, it's very listener friendly. What's wrong with that?

I remember when Janet released "Just A Little While." I thought that song was a bit different for Janet. Unfortunately not very many people liked it.

So what do people want from Janet? I think people are really tougher on her than they are on a lot of artists. I don't really understand why.

Like I said, I think the song is catchy and it's gonna bring her back to where she needs to be in on the charts but it's nothing groundbreaking and will be forgotten soon. I just hope the rest of Janet's new album has more substance.

I don't really understand why.

that song was sooooo JANET... it reminded me of the All For You album.... Im surprised people did not like that cute song... i love it... .

Yeah, Madonna showed that with "Frozen". It sounded like nothing else out there and it was also a massive commercial hit. However, I agree with voicescarry. Janet is not only not that type of artist, but she's just not that type of person. If I had to characterise her with one word, that word would probably be "passive". She goes with the flow. Always has done, always will. To expect her to do otherwise is to fundamentally misunderstand what she is.

Oddly enough I discovered that somewhere during TVR. It all of a sudden became very clear and that's when I began to lose interest and frankly it's why I don't consider her an 'artist'. No wonder her interviews were so damn dry.

Funny, I dropped her round about '98/'99 when I saw the VR tour. It was just a fancy dress party with music. It just hit me all of a sudden and that was that. Then I noticed the same emptiness in her interviews too. I'd always kind of sensed it, but never put my finger on it before. It followed on from my saying adieu to Prince 6 months earlier when I heard the New Power Soul album, and parting ways with MJ in '97 after seeing his ghost clunking through the History tour. Man, the statues were falling thick and fast in the late '90s.

P.S. Obviously I only deserted the current incarnations of Prince and MJ. Both of them are giants and will remain so, but I'd never have any reason to buy their new stuff. Their work has already been done. Everything else they do is just footnotes.
