oops I forgot Julianne Moore as Joan Baez...

I guess it is full of celebrities but Bob is a celebrity too. It's weird to see celebrities playing other celebrities.

I am definately going to see 'I'm Not There', because I'm a fan, but I don't have a good feeling about it with all the celebrities in it.

I'm not sure what this means. There aren't celebrities in it; there are actors. Good ones at that.

I'm not saying they're bad actors, but I prefer a movie like 'Control' (about Ian Curtis) with unknown actors so everyone can focus on Bob Dylan himself.

I'm just not comfortable with a Bob Dylan biopic in commercial theatres next to the big hollywood movies. confused If that's the case.

Yeah, but you have to realize that Todd Haynes and Christine Vachon have serious independent filmmaking credentials. The fact that it is playing in commercial theaters, in my mind, is GREAT news, because it means that maverick, transgendered, experimental films are breaking into mainstream consciousness and both this director and producer have been major players in making this happen. The movie is not commercial in its style at all. I hear what you're saying about celebrities and I agree completely -- but the film still makes some radical choices and I'd rather see this kind of movie hanging around in the theaters for a couple of months rather than a fly-by-night week-long screening in the independent house.

The unfortunate thing about the business now, is that even small independent films cannot get made unless they have major stars attached. I guess Todd and Christine can now play with major stars (which gets them major distribution), but I think they keep integrity in the script and filmmaking style.

see you can't win either way

making something unconventional, it gets tagged as being pretentious

get an unconventional film in a major commercial theater, it gets tagged as selling out

confused

Why don't people just go see the movie and make their own decision about it, as a piece of cinematic work?

I haven't seen the flick (and probably won't - looks like pretentious bullshit to me), but - based on the clips I've seen - I'm predicting Blanchett for Best Actress.

And I think it's pretty pretentious to sum up a movie you've not even seen. biggrin Blanchett's very good in it (as she always is), but it's a supporting role. She does an amazing job in the role, a lot funnier than I thought it would have been.

Don't worry, it's just Ace bashing Bob. He does it often. I think he has a love hate relationship with Bob. wink

No one's "sum(med) up a movie (they've) not even seen". What I said was, "(It) looks like pretentious bullshit to me" (and based on every interview I've read with the director, it seems I'm right lol).

As for my "love hate relationship" with Dylan, the man has written some of my favorite songs ("Highlands", "Not Dark Yet", "Things Have Changed", "What Was It You Wanted?", "Neighborhood Bully", "Tryin' to Get to Heaven"), but he's the most full-of-shit person ever.
