But I don't have those music videos. I am a new Michael Jackson fan compared to some on the Org.

OK but if you really wanted those music videos, those DVDs are still in print... it's not like this collection is anything new shrug

I certainly don't need this edition

but there's gonna be unreleased songs! And I'm not gonna send them to you like I did with Forever Michael! lol

Yeah but thats the whole point, most people wont have the unreleased songs. Only the hardcore MJ fans tend to search for unreleased stuff, his newer fans wont have heard any of it so will be interested in hearing it.

Off topic a little, but how many people around the world do you reckon have heard Billie Jean? It must be billions surley...just thinking!

I would think it is probably one of the most recognized pop songs in history.

ugh I can't believe there's yet MORE reissues of his back catalogue!!! However, I will be buying it cause I do want the new tracks and the DVD. And from what I remember, no one was bitching when Purple Rain had it's 20th anniversary, I remember seeing sections in music stores dedicated to prince cause of the anniversary, so mj deserves it too.

I want new music even more!!!!

But Prince had not previously released the music videos from "Purple Rain". He had released a DVD called "The Hits Collection" but none of the "Purple Rain" videos were on there except for "I Would Die 4 U", which is a different version from the anniversary collection.

Michael is just releasing the same videos over and over.

cool Michael Jackson will milk Thriller as long as he can. That is his best selling album ever.He cannot top that..apparantly no one else has. We all know how much it sold. I still find it hard to believe that Thriller was so huge. cool

Wonderwall

If the Thriller video is included with this I might finally update my VINYL copy I bought back in 83.

I remember when the video premiered on MTV back then and my dorky junior high buddies got together and watched it together. It was SUCH a big deal. I thought I was too cool for that shit (I was more into heavy metal and punk at the time) so I made fun of it and MJ the whole time. Secretly though I thought it was pretty damn cool enough to go buy the record. confused

I find it funny that people keep saying Michael is milking "Thriller" when I have hardly heard him make any mention of it over the past 15 years. It's the RECORD COMPANY-Sony-that keeps milking this thing. They're the ones who keep releasing one greatest hits collection after the next, not Michael. If Michael was promoting this however I wouldn't say anything because it's the 25th Anniversary. It is a big deal. The album was a big deal and still continues to sell well to this day.

I wasn't even going to bother getting this because I had no intention of owning Thriller for the 5th time in 7 years but because there will be unreleased songs/videos included on it (supposedly) I'm thinking of getting this afterall. This better not be the same ole same ole though or I will be mad.

What were your reasons for getting it five times? You have the original CD and then the remastered one. What else?

There's videos he hasn't released on DVD too.
Blame It on The Boogie
The Triumph
She's Out Of My Life
Billie Jean Live
Another Part Of Me
Leave Me Alone(hasn't been on a dvd collection)
Gone Too Soon(alternate version)
They Don't Care About Us(Prison version)
HIStory
Captain EO
Ghosts
Cry

he also has unreleased videos for:
Wanna Be Startin Somethin
Just Good Friends
Dangerous(supposedly)
Smile
Unbreakable

Rodya24, Hot Street, Trouble, and Niteline were outtakes of the Thriller. A fan had connections and obtained low quality versions of the songs in about 1999

I bought it four times actually, this will be my 5th time buying it...but I bought it four times because I broke it the first time and the other time someone broke into my car and stole my radio and all my cd's so I had to end up buying it again.

I think I just have bad luck with MJ cd's in general lol. I've had to replace all of my MJ cd's (except Invincible) multiple times.

Over the years, my original vinyl copy is the only one I've ever bought. In the 1990s, I recorded it onto cassette and in the 2000s, I recorded it onto CD-R. As for the Thriller video, I bought "The Number Ones" DVD collection a few years ago.

eek Really? He better release those. Actually all I know that there is an unreleased video for One more chance.

What does the alternate version of Gone too soon look like?

If I could say something in jest of "Thriller"... ok...

I've been really confused since November of last year but many MJ fans have boasted about "Thriller" SELLING well over 100 million copies (104 million).

I'm beginning to think that number was inflated (as is the sales of many artists like Elvis and the Beatles for example).

Sure, the Guinness corporation gave Michael an award where it said "Thriller" sold 104 million copies (so to dag and/or DarlingDiana, don't post the picture then we'll have another discussion about his blotchy hands neutral ) but on the 2008 edition of Guinness' book, it said "it sold 55 million though Michael's management company has insisted it sold over an estimated 100 million copies." hmmm

I find that alarming. I think either/or, it'll remain the best-selling album of all time but its sales numbers have been confusing to say the least. Is it really 104 million shipments? I couldn't see how it sold 104 million in the total of 25 years evem with its releases and its output on cassetes, vinyl albums, CDs, etc.

And Michael has added insult to injury when he said the same thing at the World Music Awards when a few years back he wasn't even sure ("I believe it's around 50 million", he said on the Bashit interview).

I'm not trying to hate on "Thriller" but this sales thing has been bothering me for some time and I need some clarity from MJ fans who ALSO wonder about the number the same way I do. lol

biggrin

Before you know it this thread will be hijacked by those whose enjoyment in life comes from either inflating or bashing Michael Jackson's ego. Whether or not Thriller sold over 50 million or 100 million, the fact of the matter is, either is an extraordinary figure. I do not doubt the fact that it is the best selling album in recording history (I sort of wish it was not; people -- including Michael Jackson himself -- put too much pressure on him to match that figure again).

A separate letter to God:

Please do not let this thread go to hell.

Sincerely,

Rodya24

Some MJ fans will actually say that to you:

"Why are you worrying about it? It's still the biggest-selling album of all time and Michael's a genius. Bye."

But back to the topic at hand:

I would think an album like Thriller as legendary as it has become, will put together a Deluxe Edition type of set where they had the original tracks, some outtakes, rare numbers, b-sides and demos and for the DVD collection to feature the videos, the "Victory" tour and other stuff).

MJ's been mostly getting the cheap treatment for years now. I would never forget when I bought MJ's "Ultimate Collection". Disc 2 should've included ALL of Thriller including the ones that did NOT make the album. That turned me off the box set. I think Disc 1 is my ultimate favorite of the discs.
