However between Thriller and Bad his dancing has more or less been the same, he has become quite highly choregraphed and quite tecnhical. And now it's about the moonwalk, crotch grabbing and standing on his toes. The reason why the Jackson variety shows are great is that you actually see him being more diverse, therefore you see how he would normally dance, like in a club setting, to the Street dancing of the 70s to Jazz dancing. One minute it looked like he belong to the Soul Train line up and the next minutes he could be part of the Chorus Line. [Edited 9/20/07 8:58am] [Edited 9/20/07 9:01am] Of course he does not dance like he used to in the '60s and '70s. But a professional dancer will tell you that in the '80s and '90s Michael Jackson was not limited to just the "moonwalk," "crotch grabbing," and "standing on his toes." His mastering of different techniques has led the average person to mistakes these moves as his own creations (some of them are, but not all). Back to the debate: Michael Jackson is a superior dancer to Janet Jackson. End of thread. I know he did more than that, but in general his dancing has been more or less repetitive. I am not even bringing Janet into the equation because without Paula Abdul she would probably` still be doing two steps, but that doesn't take away the fact that MJ has become very repetitive hence his dancing has become stale and highly parodized over the years.

I think both are very talented dancers but I would have to go with Micheal as being a better over all dancer because he shows the abiltily to free style and do choregrapghy..
but as far doing choregraphy I think Janet is better even Tina Landon said Janet picked up the choregraphy quicker than Micheal . and I really don't understand why some of you think as doing choregraphy as being " talented less " cause you still have to have the abilitly .If you don't know how to dance and go to a class your still not going to being the " IF" routine . which is exactly why Paula Abula didn' "teach" Janet how to dance she always had the abillitly. Janet.. but I do respect Michael as an artist.
For some reason, I just was never a huge Michael Jackson fan well to the extent I'm a fan of Janet's. I blame Prince! I'm just kidding, of course.

What a stupid question!
Michael is the better dancer !!!!! Even Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire admired him. He is an idol for almost every dancer I know!! And I think in his prime ( 1982-93) even Prince was better than Janet. He was dancing like a wild animal pure sex.Take for example "The Question of u"okio Nude Tour performance-better than anything Janet ever did!! And donĀ“t forget Prince can do Ballet!!(Scandalous)) [Edited 9/21/07 6:46am] [Edited 9/21/07 7:01am] [Edited 9/21/07 7:03am]

Oh.. This is about dancing? I didn't read all the topic. Oops
Well, probably one of my most favorite dancers would be Desmond Richardson, Ann Reinking.. Sylvie Guillem.. Judith Jameson...and SAVION GLOVER--just to name a few outside of Baryshnikov! LOL. I also love Carlos Acosta, Elisabeth Parkenson(sp), Ethan Stieffel.. But out of them all.. I'm just crazy about Savion. Between Michael and Janet.. I would say they both are good at what they do. I think Janet is probably more choregraphed.. but then again wasn't Michael choreographed, too? (Didn't the late, great Michael Peters choreograph some of MJ's most well-known videos?) Actually, I love the way Prince dances. I don't consider MJ, Janet, or Prince dancers on the same level as even some of their back-up dancers. They are very, very good... and very natural dancers, but they probably couldn't compete as professional dancers. So I would say all three of them effectively use dance as a way of enhancing their music. I'm going to say this.. right now my favorite dancer is Savion Glover. I really respect him as an artist. He is just amazing..the way he dance to communicate. like music. Savion is a just a treasure.. really. So as an artist, I might put Savion at the top... P.S. I've always preferred Kelly over Astaire... [Edited 9/21/07 10:33am]

Mmm Michael worked with the Nicholas brothers? Interesting.. But Savion.. wow! Have seen any clips of his show Classical Savion? I missed it when it was here, and I could just kick myself. I preferred Gene Kelly's athleticism as well, but Fred Astaire was quite amazing himself. It's all a matter of personal preference. Michael is a more talented dancer than Janet and definitely Prince. But neither of those three are typically "dancers" even if they have had extensive dance lessons and dance training. Savion Glover? All I remember is when Gregory Hines said he couldn't do what Savion could. Whoa. High praise indeed. Boy, I miss the "Prince is the greatest guitarist" threads... The Nicholas Brothers.
Neither one of those sibling slugs could hang with those siblings. But for real, I pick Mike but Janet has perfected some great dance moves over the years. And yes Mike was very diverse with his dancing in the '70s. He "limited" those moves afterwards because, he figured, that's what his fans wanted. I don't know if he could even do the dances he did in the '70s though. He done broke his back and his hips and shit, which can explain why he looked so monotone and robotic in his 2001 MSG performances, he is still a great dancer but he was going through the motions during this and his American Bandstand '02 performance. Janet gets down when she learns the choreography and she got the choreography down pat. People don't get Ms. Dunk that much credit. Yes Paula Abdul molded her dancing, Tina Landon perfected it even more so but Janet was their greatest student therefore she was able to be a very talented entertainer. In terms of females in dance, I say she's right up there with Ginger Rogers in terms of choreography and Tina Turner on just plain charge. With Mike, he's up in the class with James Brown, Joe Tex, Sammy Davis, Nicholas Brothers, Bill Bailey, Jeffrey Daniels, Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly (no matter in what order). Naturally though I'd always go with MJ.
