Yes but they all watched it too like they wanted anway us to anyway, Chris Brown is a great dancer but can he sing? if only he had Mario's voice or sometheing, then he might be able to be a heir to the throne lol . Maybe Usher? if he can only make a good album.
Alicia Keys was amazing, love the song, and that George Michael medely, was she making a statement? or did she just discover 'listen without prejeduice'? the sound and look remined of "Labelle"

The Charlie Chaplin performance at the beginning -- Chris Brown must know that Michael Jackson loves Charlie Chaplin.

It's like Chris Brown performs hoping Michael is watching, and couldn't really care who else.

That might be true. He had a Michael Jackson birthday party. The dude's a hardcore fan!

Here are my thoughts on the show:

1. Britney bombed. That bikini was a HORRIBLE idea. The song? So 1998...
2. Sarah Silverman was high. No other explanation for her total lack of humor
3. Chris Brown is a GREAT dancer
4. I forget who said it, but the best line of the night was, "Best New Artist - Gym Class...Fallout." HIGHLARIOUS!
5. Justin Timberlake is, unbelievably, starting to look cool. I liked his plea to MTV to actually play videos
6. Linkin Park - A perfect microcosm of everything that is wrong with "rock" these days
7. Kid Rock - My new hero! Beat the crap out of Tommy Lee, and then had him thrown out. Now THAT'S how a rock star rolls

All in all, a lot better than I was expecting. Kudos to the kids. You've got some game, now go write some real songs!

Always is harsh. I realize you're not totally discrediting the years when MTV used to be great but I geuninely believe that MTV's present is not only terrible but it's so bad, that it's starting to effect it's legacy and past.

I was listening to Howard Stern comment on them (again, I haven't seen them but have heard the gory details) and I realize he overembellishes and isn't totally with it when it comes it comes to the current music scene, but he even talked about being at the very first Awards years ago (in the audience, I guess) and thinking it was the coolest thing ever. They did used to be great but I don't know...something happened! This year sounds like they not only had the worst MTV Awards Show....they had the worst thing that has ever been on TV!

The 30 second "party" scenes sounded embarassing, the announcers and acceptances speeches sounded lame, they ignored the only interesting thing that happened all night (a fight between Tommy Lee and Kid Rock) and Britney Spears performance was terrible.

Let's focus on Spears. I haven't seen it and can't find it on Youtube (maybe it's there and I can't find it but I tried)...the fact that it isn't on Youtube speaks volumes. Either A) nobody honestly cared enough to put it on Youtube as good or bad or, more likely, B) MTV is sooo freked out about it bombing, that they did everything in their power to pull it. You know if it was any good, they would let it be on Youtube. They would post it on there, let it get a number of hits and this would be a postive thing for MTV! MTV fucked up this awards show so badly not only with the Vegas concept (and "performances") but mostly with the Britney comeback thing....they hyped it up (perhaps mostly behind the scenes) so much only to be let down...and I blame them more than Britney. I don't think MTV in the past would have honestly hyped up something like that to it and the performer fall on it's face. This sounds like such a diaster for the awards show in the future not to mention the network that they are going to have to either do some serious revamping of the show and make it like it was or this might be a sign of the times that the show isn't nearly as important as it was and they will slowly be phasing it out, which would be insane since it is something that I assume is a huge ratings grabber every year (their "Superbowl", really). Maybe they will just lie back and let the entire network be taken over by reality shows focused in Orange county. I guess it isn't hurting their bottom line too much since that is there focus and they treat music like a red headed stepchild.

Sorry to comment on something I didn't see (I heard a lot, though) but I got to say some stuff.

1. Britney's song isn't bad and it's certaintly not 1998...it doesn't sound a world away from her last album a few years ago.
2. I think she's been known to smoke weed a lot...she did it in her concert movie.
3 and 4. Can't comment
5. Wow....Justin said what we and the entire public have been saying for years. About as original as ripping off the black man, which of course he does as well...Sorry
6. Agreed!
7. Yes...but apparently they didn't show that on the show, which speaks volumes about what was wrong!

Again, didn't see it, but I've never known Alicia to be thick.

Here is an article that puts a very positive spin on the awards show (creams Spears, of course....I saw part of her performance...something strange was going on). Is this person way off or creating positive spin (they are all over Justin jock...when is that going to stop?). The articles makes it sound like the best show in the years and that the mini performances/set up suites where a great idea...it really sounds like something that came straight out of MTV's PR department.

Uh, wow. I almost want to see the show now, even though the whole article really sounds like bullshit.

It is quite painful. But MTV has a separate clip for each segment, so you do not have to watch the entire thing.

somebody tell me why Sarah Silverman's ass is always available to tell unfunny, lame jokes. is somebody afraid to tell her that SHE ISN'T FUCKING FUNNY?!!!?

Britney Spears needs to quit it. I thought it was priceless when the camera suddenly shot to Rihanna and she was laughing with some chick that was sitting beside her. Can you only imagine how bad they talked about Britney?

Only for Rihanna to give a lackluster performance herself??

I loved Kanye's party, wish I could have been there, but damn he had yet another temper tantrum...oh well he'll get over it like he usually does. As much as i love him, i just want to shake the shit out of him and tell him "Kanye YOU HAVE WON FUCKING GRAMMY'S ALREADY, WHY DO YOU FEEL YOU HAVE TO WIN EVERYTHING? THE MTV AWARDS ISN'T SHIT ANYWAY!!!!"
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

This VMAs just made me want to be at the party. There was soo much stuff going on in all those suites; I was mad jealous at all those lucky bitches who were there. Britney's performance...you can read my comment about that monstrosity in the Britney performance thread. Chris Brown danced his ass off, but he lip-synced, but at least he was dancing...Britney was walking (barely) and standing still (barely) and she couldn't even lip-sync well, so Chris gets kudos for his performance. Didn't Rhianna and Chris Brown do a remix of 'Umbrella' or was that her and Ne-Yo? At least she sang live and actually performed twice; plus, she should have traded outfits with Britney, because Rhianna isn't the one who needs to be covering up her belly. In fact, everyone but Britney did more than one performance throughout the evening...time to stop supporting her people. I've never been a big Alicia Keys fan...and that performance didn't change my feelings either. What was the point in the 10-second keyboard part? confused I thought her half wig/weave looked pretty awful (espeically since she was soo beautiful at the beginning of the show) and why did she borrow those boots from MJ? I remember MJ wearing similar boots a couple years ago on the VMAs when Britney gave him that award thing. Was she even able to breath in that tight ass outfit? I will give her credit for not lip-syncing and her performance looked like she put a lot into it and the energy she had was awesome, so clapping. Beyonce's dress was fugly as hell...looked like she stole some curtains and wrapped them around herself. It made her look ginormous. I liked Foo Fighters, Gym Class Heroes (definitely buying their album), Linkin Park, Fall Out Boy and even Kanye West did the damn thing...I still can't stand his ass though. Everyone doggin' Sarah Silverman. I don't think what she said was super funny, but the majority of that shit was soo true, especially when she said, "Britney is 25 and she's already accomplished everything that she can do." Shit, she accomplished everything she can do after she married K-Fed three years ago. Justin said something that every other artist should have been saying on every past VMAs...."MTV needs to play more damn videos." It's about damn time that someone had the balls to say it out loud. I really liked how JT got the award from those girls from "The Hills" and then made the comment about how MTV should get rid of all its reality shows right in front of them falloff Timbaland and Dre must be workout buddies because DAMN! I was pissed that they cut Common's performance sad . Robin Thicke was looking quite yummy and I heard he performed too, but like much of the good stuff, it was edited out. They made sure to get every possible angle of that horrible Britney performance though, but cut out all the real talent. Britney, no more drinks before performing, Boo Boo comfort. Personally, this VMAs was better than last years to me. I wish I was there, because I would have been partying my ass off. Oh, and you can watch the Tommy Lee/Kid Rick fight on MTV's website falloff "Stop White-on-White Crime"..."Stop the violence in Rock music" falloff To be honest, one of the highligths for me was a commercial for an album by this girl named Kelly Sweet...I'm going to have to pick that one up. later wave

Michael Jackson: Chris Brown Is A 'Bright And Shining Star'

LAS VEGAS, Nevada (September 10, 2007) — Forget Britney — Last night’s MTV Video Music Awards belonged to 18-year-old Chris Brown, whose electrifying performance and homage to Michael Jackson kick started the show into high gear.

One person who took notice of Brown’s dazzling display was none other than the King of Pop himself, who issued this exclusive statement to Access Hollywood:

“Chris is a bright and shining star whom I enjoy watching perform. I am happy to have had a positive influence on him.”

Justin Timberlake, a big winner at last night’s awards, was also impressed by Brown’s dynamic energy:

“Nobody likes to be reminded that they’re getting older. And whatever Chris Brown just did reminded me of how I’m getting older,” said the 28-year-old Timberlake on the broadcast. “Cause damn. It’s just exciting to see”

Brown’s dance break to the riff from Jackson’s “Billie Jean” was only one part of an elaborate set, that began with the carnival-inspired “Wall to Wall” and climaxed with an all-out dance spectacle to Brown’s and T-Pain’s “Kiss Kiss.” There was also a surprise performance from Rihanna thrown in to take things even higher.

Brown’s sophomore album, “Exclusive,” is scheduled to hit stores on November 6.

As much as I agree with you on the latter point -- that he needs to form his own identity -- his performance was one of the best in a series of awful and boring performances.

I will actually agree with you but it doesn't say much cause it left me cold. The whole show left me cold so out of the lesser of all the evils, Chris Brown would be the highlight. Too bad he's boring IMO.
