what's the hype over kanye about?

i'm sorry but all these people going on about kanye west need to be schooled.

i just heard that record... neutral for real? this is it? really? oh my god, i was dying of boredom by track 4. talk about monotony, every song sounds the same. maybe not the music but kanye's monotone talking over a beat is...well, beat.

ok, look, i like good life. that's an alright track. the problem is all his raps sound exactly the same. yawn

it is so sad that innovative is a word being used to describe this cat.

I think he's a pretty amazing producer, there's a lot of cool subtle shit going on in the tracks (even if it's not really that innovative.)

I find his rapping irritating on the new album, mostly because he's not really talking about anything interesting. The first album has some great lyrics.

Probably because he aint talkin about ice and clothes and cars except for that weak Barry bonds shit). Pick up College Dropout and it really all starts from there. Kanye took the rap world by a suprise. From just being a little producer to his own entity. Plus he can make good singles and not sell himself out to record companies to have a hit. All his singles have personality unlike 50's weak bullshit. You aint gotta listen to it....it's more eye awakening than Common's but every1 loves him on here...so do eye

People talk so much shit about me in barber shops
They 4get to get they hair cut
Ok fair enough the streets is flaring up
Cuz they want 'gun talk' or I dont wear enough
Baggy clothes, Reebocks and Addi-dos
Can I add that he do spazz out at his shows?

So say good bye to the NAACP award
Goodbye to the India.Arie award falloff
They rather give me the Nigga Please award
But I'll just take the "I Got A lot Of Cheese" award

That's all shit hop has been for the last 15 or so years which is "talking over a beat", and a weak sounding slow to midtempo ass beat at that. The shit should have gone out of style years ago but of course there are a lot of dull asses out there that think it's great.

If he was an underground artist, he wouldn't have the beats he has now. Right now, he's getting what he can from the French DJ scene (Ed Banger label)… he got Daft Punk and now So Me for his new video. Fashion wise and music wise, Ed Banger is blowing up, but it might not be through their own artists. Their biggest act(Justice) is doing real well though.
Europe is sooooo far ahead.

hmm not unusual for this site to diss one of the best hip hop albums this year that is actually listenable.

First of all, Kanye is a love-hate artist, either you hate him or you love him, there is no in between. So if you love Kanye, as I do or admire his art, then enjoy the album like I do everyday, if you don't and think he's an overrated hotheaded artist...then leave his album on the shelf...i'm sure he won't mind. Nuff said.

Second of all, compared to 50 cent...Kanye's album is a masterpiece. I've heard 50's piece of shit. It's the same old thing. At least with Kanye, he talks about different stuff, ordinary everyday stuff. Nobody wants to hear about cars, clothes, hoes, ice, guns, and bullets all the fuckin' time.

Third of all, in my opinion, Kanye is a talented individual. Yes, he has the ability to be an annoying asshole at times, yes he tends to bitch and whine, yes he tends to speak out of term, and yes sometimes he should just shut the fuck up....but guess what, he's achieved something, he's got YOU talking about him. The man's a genius. He could care less about the haters he has because obviously he has more fans out there who appreciate his art and talent. The man is not only a musical artist, but an ARTIST at drawing in his own right. So if he wasn't into hip hop, he would had been famous doing something else artistic. Could you say the same for 50????? Exactly.

And that's all I got to say.

i'm not a hater. i just don't see the hype. some of his stuff is pretty alright but the hype...i'm talking about the hype. he just isn't that great. better than 50? well, come on, my 10 year old cousins do more innovative and impressive stuff with a mic and some beats than 50 does.

i didn't even mention fitty in my comment/question. i was talking about kanye and the fact that he ain't doing enough to earn all this mass praise. sure, he's alright. but that's it.

I like Kanye West (as a producer, but I dont think he'd make a good friend...lol eek smile ) but I think he is a bit overrated. Some of his lyrics dont make scene...for example:

I'm trippin', I'm caught up in the moment right?
'Cause it's Louis Vuitton Don night
So we goin' do everything that Kan like
Heard they'd do anything for a Klondike
Well I'd do anything for a blonde dyke
And she'll do anything for the limelight
And we'll do anything when the time's right
Ugh, baby you're makin' it
(Harder, better, faster, stronger

Those lyrics make no sense. And why would he do anything for a blonde dyke?? Gay women don't like men like that,( I think he was talking about a bisexual woman) unless he wants to be friends with her or something...basically, he's a good producer, but he just needs tp proof read some of his raps, cause they don't make sense...but I love the Prince and Appolonia reference in the song!! wink
