B'Day Appreciation Thread

I know every second person hates on Beyonce Knowles but judging by the Get Me Bodied thread there's a quite a few people that like her songs, if not her.

Sooo, rate each song?

Deja Vu - Sometimes annoying, sometimes fantastic. Don't really like Jay's rap much and she's a little too crazy in the video but not too bad. 7/10

Get Me Bodied - Sounds amazing with a proper sound system, bass is HOT. Her voice can get a little too tedious, she should have varied it a bit. Loving the extended version. Don't like their dresses in the video. Incredible live. 9/10

Suga Mama
- Love the music in this song, reminds me a bit of Jimi Hendrix. Beyonce's vocals are great. Decent video. 9/10

Upgrade U
- Love Jay Z's rap in this one. Video is excellent, except the start bit with the water. I think "just when you think you had it all" part is the best bit of the song. Good vocals. 8/10

Ring The Alarm - Good for when you're mad but can get a little annoying with all the money and riches talk rather than being sad she's being cheated on. LOVE the video, Beyonce does a great job at going batshit crazy. 8/10

Kitty Kat - HATE HATE HATE the video. Quite like the song lol Kinda ordinary til the end bit "got diamonds on my records etc". 7/10

Freakum Dress
- I listen to this til it annoys the hell out of me, don't listen to it for months then come back and do it all again. I love this song. Video is alright, didn't like the dresses much razz 7/10

Green Light - I think this song is perfect, like a mix between Hot in Herre and One Thing. The chorus is awesome, sounds fantastic live. Love the video. 10/10

Irreplaceable
- Kinda lame but the "to the left" part is catchy and she loves doing it. Everyone seems to love this song but...meh. 6/10

Resentment
- shake (sorry alex lol) 1/10

Listen
- love 8/10

Other songs -

Flaws And All
- Chorus ruins it but the verses are nice. 6/10

I was lucky enough to go to her The Beyonce Experience tour this April, here's some videos I took :

I only like "Kitty Kat", "Irreplaceable" and "Get Me Bodied" neutral. I'm so glad that I bought this on the street for $4 instead of spending $18 like most people. I sure did get my money's worth biggrin . This is a very mediocre album IMO.

omg I love you!!! I love the b'day CD but will review the deluxe edition

Beautiful Liar: sounds like a cross between madonna's music, push and mariah's it's like that, with fabulous vocals from both artists coming together perfectly I

Irreplaceable: the acoustic guitar and slow uptempo percussion with claps over a smooth melody make this song, as well as 'to the left to the left'

green light: although the bassline is simple and the melodic percussion is signature to the neptunes, the chorus is random with a big band sound to it that builds up more and more each time, love it! I love how the music changes constantly

kitty kat: a simple neptunes songs with a kick ass bridge that has me cracking up when she talks about calling tyrone

hollywood: hate this song, don't care for it

upgrade you-I love her voice in this and the big band hook, she did hip hop very well this time with a different twist to it. My favourite part is the bridge after the rap

flaws and all-simply one of her best songs ever. I love the pianos and percussion and her voice is powerful with emotions. I can totally relate to the lyrics as well

kissing you-a beautiful ballad which in my opinion puts des'ree's version to shame. You can feel the love she has for jay z although whenever I hear her sing "i love you more than music' I think of jay z with a stoned face lmfaooo but I feel her on the love thing

get me bodied-love the awesome claps and snaps incorporated into this beat, her energetic vocals that almost remind me of dancing machine melody-wise, and the fun breakdown

freakum dress-simply one of the best and another new phrase created by beyonce. I love the buildup towards the chorus, and the 80's vibe it has going there

suga mama-a feel good song with a jackson 5 sound to it and amazing voice

deja vu-a great dance song which I think didn't get enough props from people, it has an off-the-wall or triumph type sound to it

ring the alarm-love the edge in this and how angry she is, I don't know why she was criticized for it, lets not blame rihanna either

resentment-her voice is really strong and she almost has me crying cause I could feel her pain in the voice

listen-the song that proved to me that beyonce has made it as a solo artist and is here to stay(though I always knew she would be around) I totally love the message and can't stop singing this, and she sounds really really sincere and determined here, something she's got to have inside herself to have made it this far and not take crap from haters

worldwide woman-she's bringing back the message of independent woman, a good song to chillax to

I wasn't too fond of the whole thing either when I first heard it, but it somehow grew on me, I came to appreciate each track slowly by the time irreplaceable came out, but once the songs had videos that just did it for me

I'm going to her concert next month and I'm sooo excited! I'd been meaning to see DC everytime they did promo but never got a chance or found out too late, but even better I get to see beyonce at her peak

oh YEAH-US!!
I think that B compliments Rich Harrison's production better than anybody else he works with, even Amerie, which is sad seeing as how he's HER producer, but B sounds better doing Amerie's music thatn she does.

purplesweat, I don't know why people are hating on her. People bitch about music not being good anymore and people not having talent. I'm one of those people, but beyonce is doing her thing and has so much talent, yet people are complaining, it's pathetic!

There are no words to describe how craptastic that album is.

And I’m not a Beyonce hater, I liked her fist album so much that I went to see her in concert.

I tried to like this one, but it's near enough un-listenable biggrin . There is only one reason why the album is still on the charts and that’s because it was marketed so well.

I saw Beyonce LIVE in concert last night and she was incredible.I have to truthfully say that she is even better live than on record. Her vocals were awesome and so was her choreography and stage set. Lord, her band was unbelievable. For those people that have any doubt about this all female band, let me put your doubts to rest. These ladies are some of the best musicians-male or female-that I have ever seen. The crowd was totally into "B" and the place was packed. Beyonce had the crowd on their feet, the entire 2 hours that she performed. This lady gave you your money's worth and that's an understatement. I bet there were no Beyonce haters who left that arena, IF they were before the show. Btw, Robin Thicke was absolutely great as her opening act. He also has an unbelievable band. All in all, one of the best concerts that I have ever attended.

Even though I don't own this album, I have to say that Kitty Kat, Deja Vu, Ring The Alarm, and Green Light have quite grown impressively on me. They're catchy too! But, I don't think I will ever buy this album because it's just inconsistent. I liked her first one alot, especially the ballads, but B'Day sounds too rushed and rambled together.

Deja Vu - it grew on me. it would've been better without jay.

Get Me Bodied - i love it

Suga Mama - i love the music in this one too. a perfect theme song for the well established "cougars" of the world.

Upgrade U - it's a good song, but i'm tired of it now.

Ring The Alarm - i loved it at first but not not so much.

Kitty Kat - i like it.

Freakum Dress - this is the only song i really disliked. i couldn't fast forward past it quickly enough. now i'm so used to hearing everybody use the term freakum dress so the song has slowly grown on me.

Green Light - it grew on me. she looks hot in the video

Irreplaceable - lol she has everyone, including me, saying "to the left".

Resentment - it's ok

i can respect her stepping out of the box and trying to do something different. if she wants to really become an icon she needs to upgrade her lyrics. a catchy beat is nice and may sustain in hip hop (well not really) but as an r&b songstress the words and emotions are what is going to stand the test of time.

i held off on this one. then got it when the limited edition came out. i bought it mainly because of Shakira giggle anyway..i was sort of indifferent at the 1st listen or two. now i play it almost on a daily basis. as i said before "UPGRADE U" is the shiznit. i can take or leave the ballads on it. "Listen" is a great performance though. and i love the lyrics. her Español is really good too.
