I especially love all these people who diss artists they've probably never listened to an entire albums worth of. A lot of the artist beings listed aren't people you can really appreciate song by song, or without really listening to with an open mind. Sure many of these people are overrated, but EVERYBODY who's "great" is a little overrated by virtue of the excessive worship their fans give them. A lot of people just refuse to take the time or effort to get into something just because it doesn't immediately appeal to them and they resent it's overhypedness and will just dismiss it, and I know because I've done that a lot myself with music and other things. Yes, "I don't like" often means "I'm not interested enough to get to know," which is fine. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

The Beach Boys-I admire what Brian WIlson was able to do by pushing the musical possibilities of the surf sound, but as a group, not a fan.
The Greatful Dead-Can't put my finger on it, but not a fan. Pfunk-Yeah they influenced Prince, but not digging them at all. "Old man's gotta be the old man. Fish has got to be the fish."

Elvis - reminds me too much of trailer parks / rednecks and black velvet posters Aretha Franklin - there are a lot of better singers who deserve just as much praise as she's gotten over the years The Beach Boys - The Greatful Dead - just don't get it

After reading these posts, I'm convinced that many of the posters here have the WORSTtaste in music, and wouldn't know quality if it bit them on the ass. Anybody who thinks The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Frank Sinatra (!) , Aretha Franklin (!!!) or Elvis (!!!!) lack talent or are overrated either needs to see an audiologist or stop listening to Beyonce.
(BTW- Chuck D said in an interview in Mojo Magazine that Elvis was a "great artist"- it was people's deification of him that he had a problem with. So stop quoting that ridiculous two decade old lyric, please) #SOCIETYDEFINESU

Never understood the appeal. style council had one Ok song though, but i forget the title. I still dont mind Nirvana (well the 2 albums I have of them), but the hype gets on my nerves (though the band didn't ask for it LOL)

I agree with much of what you say. Taste is a subjective thing. But a lot of the posters are mentioning issues that have nothing to do with the actual music, like something Aretha said in her autobiography , or people's reactions to Elvis along racial lines...stuff like that, which has nothing to do with their talents #SOCIETYDEFINESU

Any Weller-hater is no friend of mine. Kurt Cobain I can understand. I really don't see what the big deal was with Nirvana. They ripped off bands like The Pixies and Killing Joke and now they're considered legends? There were other bands that were doing their style before them but they didn't get much props. MUD-FRICKIN'-HONEY!!!! To me Nirvana was just a Punk band that got lucky. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

Of all the acts that have been around forever, the only one who doesn't have a single song I like is Billy Joel. Not a one, and I think I know a good portion of his catalogue. My dad was a big fan. Mostly it's that the production on just about any of his songs sounds dated to me.
No, not even Piano Man or New York State of Mind.

Well, that was sort of the point...plus, it wasn't really his song, Cliff 'Ukulele Ike' Edwards sang it at least 35 years earlier. Personally . I'm also one of those that go "big deal" about Tupac but guy was a poetic soul tortured with an ignorant thought process. Love his lyrics though and he showed a lot of passion that made him a great actor but I wouldn't go far to call him the greatest rapper of all time.
