New Beck album gets 5 stars in Rolling Stone. I just noticed the review for the new Beck album this month in Rolling Stone, and they gave it 5 stars. Considering they dont pass out 5 star reviews like candy, I'm really curious to hear this album now.
I know it all subjective, but I've generally found their reviews to be pretty reasonable. I don't even own a single Beck album, but I may have to change that soon, lol.

I don't own any Beck either... I'm not sure why that is, because I really do like him.

Prince and the NPG has been the only music I have been interested in listening too. I am happy to say that I have found another group of musicians with a fabulous male singer. Last year it was the video of "Yellow" that I loved. The new album "A Rush Of Blood To The Head" I bought yesterday because of the USA Today review. If you have a chance check out COLDPLAY~
I remember when everyone thought BECK was a soon to be "One Hit Wonder" with "I'm A Loser Baby". I dug "New Polution", very cool video. But I have not listened to the last couple albums. If I have a chance I will check out the New One... I sure hope Prince dances in a Video in "The Future" He is sooo due for a well done video that would be high energy and would showcase some awesome Dance Moves and Guitar Superstar Licks. He should let Madonna and Co. produce a couple videos for him. I'm getting off the subject... sorry~

I posted a link to this review in the Beck: Sea Change thread. I also wrote out the review from allmusicguide.com.

The whole Rolling Stone/Us magazine world has taken some hits recently regarding the objectivity of their record reviews. US magazine dumped an unfavorable review of a Don Henley cd for a favorable review due to friendships with the publisher. Rolling Stone gave Mick Jagger's solo cd last year 5 stars which was considered a gift.
And they love love love love love Beck. Although in this case it may be justified - I haven't seen any negative reviews for Sea Change.

Beck is Alright but He ain't even got a 5 Star Song in His Catelog let alone a 5 Star Album overall IMHO. mistermaxxx

But remember, they gave Springsteen's new album 5 stars as well, so the album might suck. But Beck is turning into a little genius, so ya never know. Prince better start bowing to Beck from now on. All you others say Hell Yea!!

Prince bows 2 NO man, irrespective of status/talent. He is humble b4 God though. Personally, i admire Beck's work a great deal & look 4ward 2 hearing his new album(is it out yet?), though 1 always needs 2 treat music press reviews with guarded scepticism. I still find it hard 2 believe Geffen were initially going 2 knock back "Mutations" & allow him 2 release it independently. They surely can't have listened 2 it b4 they came 2 that decision!

Sea Change is great.
I own every Beck album, and i must say that Sea Change is really outstanding. You can't compare it with for exemple Mellow Gold. Mellow Gold is funny and Sea Change sounds so sad and serious. Beck has gone trough some changes, and I like it. The album deserves 5 stars.

I posted a link yesterday where you can hear the whole album.
I think it's www.beck.com/preview and then you fill out your info and you can hear it. I like it...a lot.

I thought Becks Vultures album was a parody of Funk and Electroboogie early hip hop, from a white kids point of view.
Like it's cool for a white kid to give the soul to the white kids and that makes it cool for the Gap Generation. I did enjoy Debra...whew, that really is a great song, the falsetto rocks! I was impressed with that one. The lyrics mention Glendale which is hilarious. He just has that look, you know...that "Indie Pop" hair...the design of the new album is pretty nice though. Creates a nice warm mood. Colors. We'll see. I don't really care for Rolling Stone. I've gotten really, really bored with magazines as of late. On a side note, Beck's from the mid-nineties SilverLake (Los Angeles hipster area) scene, which now is getting out of hand. Lot's of "trust fund" artists, movie kids, hipsters (you wonder what they do, eat al fresco all day at the plain hip restaurants)...out of towners...I'm kind of angry at the scene because, the nighborhoods kicking out some businesses that were unique and strange and were there from the beginning because they don't fit the "Starbucks" business model. Recently though there was the Silver Lake Movie Festival which cool. But again, doesn't really reflect the ethnic mixture of what SilverLake and surrounding nighborhoods are. It was like LA's version of Uptown! It has everything, Latino's, African Americans, Russian's, Armenians, Filipino's, Asians, Gay's, Lesbians, straights! All kinds of scenes...it was richer. Now it's turning into a big Gap community. It's richness is what allowed Beck to flourish in a way in his early days. //// [This message was edited Fri Sep 27 0:57:01 PDT 2002 by FlyingCloudPassenger]

I heard one of the new songs in a wrecka stow yesterday, and it's good. Not change the face of the earth good, but good, like The Flaming Lips.

I'm trying to like it, but for the most part, it's just OK. It's music I don't mind playing, but I can't really get into it.

Just a few miles west of Dodger Stadium. South East of the Obervatory. Next to Los Feliz which is interconnected in some beautiful way with SilverLake. You should leave West LA. It's odd. People in East LA don't venture out to the west side...people in West LA don't venture out to the East side. I think it's stereotypes. And maybe people in South LA don't go to either sides too! Oh well. The nice thing about those nieghborhoods of Hollywood, Wilshire/Downtown, SilverLake, Echo Park, Los Feliz, Elysian Park is that it's in somewhat of a central place. So you get a big mixture of people. A soup that'll burn you if you taste it too fast. But pretty good once it warms down. Nice to survive and fit in in your own special way. It was great growing up around those areas.

The Beck album is mature and haunting as hell. Moody to be sure, but amazing musical landscape. No sound effects or funny lyrics just wonderful music. You can get lapped up into the lucious quick sand of it all. mmm All you others say Hell Yea!!
