Popular artists who cannot sing

Sheryl Crow.....Have you ever taken time to really listen to her voice? She can carry a tune but that's it. She's a better song/writer than a singer, for sure.

Rihanna, I like her or whatever but she can't sing.
Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

Mick Jagger, George Clinton, Ja Rule (or rap), James Brown,Britney Spears, Rod Stewart too many to mention. Alot of their voices have made them famous though.

She did backup for MJ though. confuse You'd think he'd have backup singers who could somewhat carry a tune. I don't think Sheryl's terrible compared to a bunch of singers out there.

Just taking a guess at what you're basing that on, are you considering some of his early non-Funk material...

Try Me
Tell Me What I Did Wrong
Bewildered
Lost Someone
Prisoner Of Love

...Just a few examples.

Ja-Rule tries to sing shake P Diddy too shake That bit in Come With Me was terrible.....I'm put off by his newest song too. I love the Prince-like beat, but when he starts singing, it ruins the whole song. Keyshia's vocals don't help it either.

After he settled on FUNK as his MO, everything became a rhythm instrument (horns, keys, guitar) even his voice.

But I don't have to tell you that. wink

It's easy to pick on vocalists we don't like because of their style. I could easily rattle off a list of Beyonces, Fuggies and Pinks for this, but they can generally carry a tune, even if I don't like how they do it. lol

These rappers, however, should NEVER try to sing, because their attempts to do so are such abject failures!

Those people don't know what singing is, then. An argument could be made that she can't pronounce English words properly, but her vocal chops are pretty much undeniable, I'd say.

One of my favorites...

...Donald Fagen

Not a technical singer by any stretch, but his voice is perfect for the persona of the songs (solo & Steely Dan).

I guess I don't know shit then, cuz homegirl can't sing. She can scream and summon demons from the guttural depths of her stomach for days, but she can't sing. There's talent there for sure; I just don't think she's a good singer at all.
