Joan Armatrading / Into The Blues (2007) [in stores TODAY -- May 1st. USA] :::
Joan Armatrading / Into The Blues (2007) UK release date: 9 April 2007 US release date: May 1, 2007 Source: http://www.joanarmatrading.com [ “Baby when you sing the blues, I take all my clothes off, for you…” So sings Joan Armatrading whimsically on “Play The Blues,” a track off of her stunning new recording, “Into The Blues.” An all new collection of songs penned, produced and performed by a proven master of finely tuned, emotionally charged pop/rock, “Into The Blues” is Armatrading’s definitive take on the blues and all that entails. 429 Records will release “Into The Blues” on May 1st and Armatrading will tour the U.S. this summer. Long recognized as a pioneering force as a woman in rock music, “Into The Blues” is a musical statement from a master songwriter and player. From the shimmering pop tones of the opening track and first single “A Woman In Love” to the discontented swagger of “Ain’t A Girl Alive” to the dark, cautionary mood of set closer “Something’s Gotta Blow,” Armatrading delivers her most confident, personal and musically accomplished work to date. “Into The Blues” touches on many moods—emotions range from lighthearted to shockingly dark. Her effortlessly expressive guitar work is a constant and exhilarating element throughout. Joan also produced a rare video for “A Woman In Love”—currently streaming on www.429records.com (as well as “In These Times” from Lover’s Speak), You Tube or DVD copy is available at contact below. “Into The Blues” is the CD I’ve been promising myself to write for a long time. Recording it has given me so much pleasure and playing blues guitar—I adore it!” Says Armatrading. :: Tracklisting: 1. A Woman In Love 2. Play The Blues 3. Into The Blues 4. Liza 5. Secular Songs 6. My Baby’s Gone 7. D.N.A. 8. Baby Blue Eyes 9. Deep Down 10. There Ain’t A Girl Alive 11. Empty Highway 12. Mama Papa 13. Something's Gotta Blow ] ... I listened to the songs on her myspace last night and couldn't stop playing "Into The Blues" and "A Woman In Love." Great tracks. I'm looking forward to the album.

Me too, for the first time in awhile with her. While none of those tracks hits the greatness of classic Joan for me, they're the best I've heard her sounding in awhile. So glad she's not smothering that voice in overproduction this time. And, damn, when did she get so badass on guitar?! Thanks for the headsup

Ok, she deserves a bump. These tracks are really growing on me, and I think most orgers would dig 'em.

I LOVE Joan. Her underwhelming response on the org MUSIC section is appalling considering the wealth of her material over the last 30+ years and the range of tastes on here. More people need to get hip to her older material it seems?

I'm glad to let you know about this album. I almost missed knowing about it myself entirely since NO ONE talks about her anywhere. I had to dig to get this info and I stumbled across the new album release by looking at a list of new releases. I can't imagine how it is for her fans who don't have computers. They have no idea this project is coming. I'm going to try and check her out on tour for the first time when she comes here this summer.

I'm especially loving that Liza is the most unapologetically girl-lovin' song I've ever heard her do. And Woman in Love and Into the Blues are freaking gorgeous. Definitely go see her live. She's one of those artists where her shows feel like a family reunion.

She's one of those artists where her shows feel like a family reunion. My first Joan album was Me Myself I. Fell in love with it. After that, purchased Secret Secrets (purchased it from an eBay seller in Australia -- that's how out-of-print it was) and The Key through online auction. I was lucky enough to find an unopened copy of the 1983 album with longsleeve cardboard compact disc box in tact, etc. etc. etc. She may be underrated to everyone else, but I fully appreciate her. With this new album, I really like the direction she's going in. Honestly, I wasn't much into her last album Lovers Speak. But this album sounds very promising. I like the raw sound of it. I have her myspace page saved as one of my favorite places, just so I can keep clicking on the "Into The Blues" track. Yeah, "Liza" is a great track. She is doin' it with the vocals and lyrics on that. "I see you looking at me..." lol I can only begin to imagine the audience reactions to this song if she performs it live this summer. I wanted to catch her on stage during the Lovers Speak era, but her tourdates conflicted with my personal goings on. But, yes, I'm definitely going to make the effort. I take it you've seen her?

I always crack up that my jam-band-loving cousin from Connecticut got me into her as a teenager. I saw her live in the early 90s in Berkeley. Loved it, and have been meaning to see her again, except that, like you, I have really been to into her recent stuff. But I love these new tracks. Will definitely be picking this one up. The melodies are on point and I'm completely blown away by her guitar playing. [Edited 4/30/07 17:47pm]

I'm either going to pick it up at lunch or after work.
