BACK TO BLACK Okay, so Amy pretty much matched my total sales prediction in two weeks. I'm glad I was wrong. The album may even go gold now. Not bad for a Brit.

Though its not going to happen unless a miracle takes place, I would love to see the JLO latin cd debut at Number One next week, mainly because she would become the first artist in history to debut at Number one with an album in English and now one in spanish.
Also the April 3rd releases of Beyonce (re-issue) Timbalame, and the Hot dance club album from Hilary Duff will easily all be 100,000+ sellers out the box, so the industry will be happy for a week, but after that its looking like its going to be a long summer of well under 100,000 debuts. See! Not everyone has to fuck for tracks! Just to give everyone a little insight on the whole fucking for tracks issue. I was at an industry party this Friday, and certain prodcuers were there, big name producers that are "in" at the moment, and trust me its the other way around. Producers are picking there artists (females) that they want to work with the same way Rappers pick the video girls they want for their videos so they cant get sex. I talked with a girl that works at universal and another that has ties to badboy/bmg/sony and trust me this is the way it goes, Producers pick them like they are looking to get some action, they work with the artist _____ (fill in the blank) and have a relationship and when it doesnt go their way thats when you have things like the Dallas incident. Trust me some of everyones fave HIP producers are doing this, or trying to do this. Daughtry Elliott Yamin Katherine McPhee Taylor Hicks I think it proves the show is meaningless, right now you have some kid getting famous for his hair and im sure hes going to be the next big seller. I like Katharine McPhee though ive never seen the show, i saw one clip of her and thought she had some talent the rest, very boring. One of the reasons i have always disliked Whitney is that i cant get past her bad attitude, i can deal with her being a coke head or insane, but i cant deal with her "madonna like" rants about people like Mariah Carey which honestly were "racist" based and she knows it. Lets not forget that her, cissy houston and Gladys Knight all said that after Mariah won an award for best RB album that she shouldnt even have been considered in that category? thats my issue with Whitney, well Karma got her at least. Well Mariah didn't deserve to win no r&b award! She has no soul. For Whitney, it just comes naturally. And I never saw Whitney act the way Mcphee does. Mcphee has a serious attitude problem. Whitney always came across as elegant, gracefull and classy when she started out. I never once sensed she had a big ego and Whitney is NOT a racist! I have never heard such craziness in my life. Mariah & Whitney have sang together before on songs like "When you believe" so it looks like whatever beef they had going is now squashed. Whitney is passed all that and what's this talk about karma coming back at Whitney? What has she done that's so bad? So she took a few jabs at Mariah-big deal. Like I said they have put their differences aside so it doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is that Whitney is on her way to making one of the biggest comebacks in entertainment history. MARKET WATCH
• Album units, current chart week: 8.72 million units • UP 2.6% from last issue's charts: 8.50 million units • DOWN 18.2% from same week, 2006: 10.66 million units • This week: The top two albums sell more than 100,000 copies. • This week last year on The Billboard 200: Prince scored his first No. 1 since 1989, as "3121" debuted atop the chart with 183,000. Three more albums debuted in the top 10 from B.G., Ben Harper and Teddy Geiger. The top three albums sold more than 100,000 units. PROGRESS REPORTS • Pink earns her eighth top 10 on the CHR/Top 40 chart, and her first since "Family Portrait" in February 2003, as "U + Ur Hand" climbs 14-10 in its 17th chart week. In the more than 14-year history of the list, only two other songs by female artists have taken as long or longer to reach the top 10: "Insensitive" by Jann Arden (18 weeks) in 1996 and "These Words" by Natasha Bedingfield (17 weeks) in 2005. "Hand" marks a return to familiar territory for Pink, who began her chart career in 2000 by scoring top 10s with seven of her first eight singles ... "U + Ur Hand" is the third U.S. single from the singer's "I'm Not Dead" album. The first, "Stupid Girls," peaked at No. 17 while the second track, "Who Knew," failed to chart ... "I'm Not Dead" rises 84-68 on The Billboard 200 (12,000) with a 30% increase this week. Mika's Grace Kelly seems to be bouncing up and down the lower end of the charts. I wonder if the cd is going to even make it to the top 40. Though Love Today did debut @ 106.
I'm not wishing for statewide success but it would be a shame if this cd didn't get some props in the USA. The Most Important Thing In Life Is Sincerity....Once You Can Fake That, You Can Fake Anything.

Tim McGraw 350k
Now 180-200k Young Buck 150k Mims 75-85k Good Charlotte 60k Jennifer Lopez 50k Lil Flip 50k Redman 45k Mika 30k Kaiser Chiefs 30k Macy Gray 15k TIM’S TIME IS NOW Not So Much for EMM’s Latest Version of Hits Album, Headed for 200k, as Young Buck Approaches 150k March 28, 2007 Get out your hats, folks. The cavalry has arrived. As Tim McGraw’s dad, Met relief pitcher Tug, once put it, “You gotta believe.” The country star’s new Curb album, Let It Go, is ready to do just that, with first-day sales reports pointing to a total of 350k, give or take. That’s more than enough to make him next week’s #1, with what would be the year’s second-highest figure after Norah Jones’ 405k+ back in February. In second place, Now 24, the latest edition of the perennial best-seller, this time from EMM, sports a surprisingly low total closer to 180-200k. Pundits are pondering whether the digital sales market is finally devouring Now's successful franchise as it rotates among the major labels. Either that or the N.Y. Times’ Jeff Leeds is right about the album being a dead format. Other chart newcomers include G Unit/Interscope rapper Young Buck’s Buck the World looks headed for first-week sales of almost 150k, while Capitol rapper Mims rides his huge hit, “This Is Why I’m Hot” in steaming first-week sales of 75-85k. Epic emo-punks Good Charlotte are in the 60k range, while labelmate Jennifer Lopez’s Spanish language album, Como Ama Un Mujer, or How to Love a Woman for you Anglos, is at 50k, with Puerto Rico yet to weigh in. Asylum rapper Lil Flip looks headed for the 50k, which is about 5k above what Def Jam/IDJ’s critically acclaimed Redman album is expected to do. Casablanca/Universal Republic’s Mika, another U.K. star seeking cross-oceanic success, will debut with around 30k, followed by Universal Motown’s Kaiser Chiefs, yet one more neo-British Invasion critical fave looking to make inroads with stateside rock fans. Finally, Macy Grey’s debut for will.i.am/Geffen Records, Big, is headed for around 15k in first-week sales, which just might be enough to sneak into the Top 50. Maybe she needs to start wearing that dress from a few Grammy ago advertising her album is out. Overall, things remain downbeat, with the market up between 2-3% vs. last week, down 18% vs same week last year and now down more than 16.5% year-to-date. Hey, you gotta believe. [Edited 3/28/07 13:50pm] I still say the shutting down of over 800 Musicland/Sam goody locations was the major factor to rap/hip hop's sales demise. At this point there is nowhere to ship the units so there is no way to get numbers for debut.
