Rock & Roll HOF

So- is anyone watching??? Am I correct in believing this is the first time they've ever aired the ceremony live? I started watching about 45 mins in...there was a really nice (and long) retrospective piece while they set up for the next award.
Patti Smith is on right now, she opened her performance with the Stones, Gimme Shelter. Not sure who I missed so far....

yeah, she was interesting. I'm going to have to back up my DVR, not sure if I already missed Van Halen (but isn't Eddie in rehab???) or Grand Master Flash. Now they are showing a performance from 1995 with Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and Neil Young performing together which is rockin!
Nicest thing so far about it being live is all these old clips from previous ceremonies and now they are showing Patti again the "press room". It's on until 12:30.
Oh, now they're about to talk about James Brown! here comes Sharpton.

They are just starting Grand Master Flash now....

So, VH is in, only Michael Anthony and Sammy were there (Eddie's in rehab). Sammy admitted in his speech that he really wasn't supposed to be included but thanked the powers to be who included him. In the press room, they both said they were suprised Dave didn't show. I guess he's pissed Sammy was included??? I don't blame him.
After Velvet Revolver did their tribute, MA and Sammy did a song with Paul Schaeffer and Sammy sucked!! seriously, he was bad.

Now that was great!!!!! I was up dancing in my living room for GMF!!!! (and I'm not the dancing type generally) woot!
loved Mels speech. Wow, I am really glad I've got the DVR going for this (esp. with all these old clips from years I didn't tape too). I was pretty neutral about them getting in- but oh yeah, did they deserve it! Felt great to see that. Have they still been together, doing shows and stuff?

and here's Prince (while my guitar..)
without a doubt one of his best performances ever! They need to show that every year...that performance just needs to be shoved in peoples faces whenever possible so they don't forget.

I actually dont understand why Sammy Hagar wouldnt be included? He was the lead vocalist and writer from 1985-1997 and then breifly when the Best of 2 cd set came out. Sure Dave put them on the Map from 1978-1984 but Sammy kept them alive for them to even being considered for the Hall. Had VH broken up in 1984 there is no way they would have gotten in to the hall of fame. So its strange how the two guys their are the two out of the band and 1 of them is probably the most important member and thats Michael anthony, at this point VH is over, whether Eddie recovers or not, the band is done. On a side note, Bon Jovi who will be eligible and a shoe in for next year or the year after, have already said that Bassist Alec Jon Such who was kind of voted out of the band for personal reasons (alcohol) will be standing with them on stage if/when they get in, thats class!

I wasn't going to watch it but now maybe I will. Unless things have changed, VH1 will probably the air the show 50 times.

Okay Wham! is eligible two years from now so we have time to get the petitions ready just in case there is a terrible oversight.

What was up with the Ronnettes' induction? Boy, Keith Richards and Ronnie Spector seemed a bit "out of it." That was one that needed to be edited. Thankfully the other members of the Ronnettes (who Ronnie all but ignored during her speech) saved the day with their words/speeches. Unfortunately, after that spectacle, I turned. So I did not see anything else. sad

Iron Maiden suck, honestly I've never understood how anyone could like this band. long winded and boring song craft\lyrics, a truly horrible singer (I know he's got range and clearly has operatic training but his timbre is atrocious and his live performances suck even worse) occasionaly there's a half decent guitar solo but honestly I've tuned out by then.
Def Leppard don't deserve it as they only had a few good albums, no great ones.
Alice Cooper definitely deserves it, and I'm shcoked he hasn't already got it, sure his hair metal albums weren't great but the group albums, a few of his solo albums and his recent return form not to mention his ever present live show... yeah what's going on?
Motley Crue grossly underachieved in their career after a promising debut and sophmore, these guys are famous for their hard partying and famous girlfriends rather than their music.
Duran Duran... Can you even call them rock?

I think it was on VH1 Classic since VH1 regular doesn't seem to ever show anything LIVE. Classic has been doing that, recently at least (they also carried the Police's press conf/performance in its entirety live a few weeks ago).
I hope when VH1 re-airs, they show the whole thing- those retrospective/flashback pieces they showed the audience in between inductions were really great.

I hope the above get in next year, they deserve it. And I agree that the above from your "snubbed" list should be in. I don't understand why Genesis has been passed over or Alice. Maiden is a long shot, but I'd be happy to see them in.
You also mentioned- Def Leppard- I love their albums- but have lost some respect for them since seeing them live last year and some things Joe Elliot has said in interviews. They can stay snubbed imo!
Crue in general are not worthy. Duran Duran I have no opinion on.

Does anyone know what nationality the Ronnettes are? I've been trying to figure it out for years. They should have been in there years ago.

Micheal Anthony and Sammy Hagar were true gentlemen and showed pure class. Sammy deserves to be in the RARHOF just based on his solo work and time with Ronnie Montrose. The crowd was really into the 2 jamming with the Paul Schaffer band. It just goes to show you that Eddie, Alex and DLR are the main core problem with VH trying to get off the ground.

..and sorry..as cool as VR is, they BUTCHERED those 2 songs. What an embarassment.
