The Jacksons to reform in £250m deal

The Jacksons to reform in £250m deal

Michael Jackson is expected to make his comeback with a string of gigs across America estimated to earn him £250million.

Aides of the troubled singer are in the final stages of negotiating a deal which will see him joined on stage by all the other members of the Jackson Five.

The group - which last regularly performed together 23 years ago - is lined up to play 250 concerts in Las Vegas over the three years from next year, when Jackson will be 50. Further concerts around the U.S. and the world are planned.

There are also wide-ranging plans to build a Michael Jackson theme park, casino, hotel and stadium in the Nevada city. The deal, which is also expected to earn millions in merchandising and product endorsements, will immediately clear debts - estimated at £170million - the singer is reported to have accrued.

Jackson became a pariah after allegations of child molestation in December 2003. He was acquitted of all ten counts but his career - already long wanting a hit album - had gone into freefall.

His debts forced him to sell his Neverland ranch and he has since lived a somewhat nomadic existence. In recent weeks he and his brothers have been in negotiations with Jack Wishna, the producer responsible for taking Celine Dion to Caesar's Palace.

Former Spice Girls manager Simon Fuller - who brokered David Beckham's record-breaking move to LA Galaxy - is also understood to be involved in the negotiation.

A source said: 'There was initially some concern about Michael's image, which has taken quite a battering with the child molestation allegations. There were also concerns over whether Michael would be keen on performing in front of a large audience after so long away from the stage.

'After all, the last time he performed was at the World Music Awards in London - it was a very badly received performance.

'So a plan was hatched to get the rest of the family tied into a deal first. They were offered a deal to reform - for a much smaller payday - and were told that if they got Michael on board, the figure would skyrocket.

'That's when the rest of the family got working on Michael - and it certainly seems to have worked.

'Initially there will be a "best of" album, two new tracks will be recorded, there will be the stint in Las Vegas, then the U.S. and the world. They are already talking through product endorsements. The only reason no announcement has come yet is because Michael is a notoriously erratic individual.

'He has been requesting all sorts of additions, like finding a secure high-walled home for himself and his children in the Nevada desert for the duration of the Vegas concerts.'

Another source added: 'The deal being thrashed out is astronomical. There has been talk of a theme park, museum, casino, hotel and stadium for Michael - complete with Jackson memorabilia, videos, rare footage, casino, rides and concert halls.

'One of the reasons Michael is so keen on the plans starting in Las Vegas is because his hero Elvis made the town his own'

Jackson's attorney Brian Oxman confirmed negotiations were under way but described any figures as 'totally preliminary'.

Let's see how many decades it takes before this happens lol

The Jacksons are always working on projects that never seem to happen. There is always a "reunion tour in the works".By the time they finally get it all together, they'll be too old to tour lol

Truth is there has never been a reunion tour in the works. That's just what people want to happen. But they've never thought about, or planned anything. The only brother that seems to want it to happen is Jermaine.

Yeah,Jermaine has mentioned it several times in the past few years. He should actually consult with his brothers before he starts talking that mess, lol.

I think it's because Jermaine wasn't on the Destiny and Triumph albums and tours. And he wasn't part of the Jackson's variety show. In 1976, 77 and 78, the Jacksons (without Jermaine) performed together so much. They probably feel like they did more than enough performing together in those few years to last a life-time. But Jermaine was left out of all that, and I supposed he hasn't felt like a Jackson (the band, no the family) in a number of years (since 1976) despite the Victory album and tour which was a huge bomb anyway.

Quote from his auto-biography (Moonwalk):
"As important as he was to music, black as well as white, he just wasn't an influence on me. I guess he was too early for me. Maybe it was timing more than anything else. By the time our song had come out, people thought that if I kept living in seclusion the way I was, I might die the way he did. The parallels aren't there as far as I'm concerned and I was never much for scare tactics. Still, the way Elvis destroyed himself interests me, because I don't ever want to walk those grounds myself."

So no, he wasn't much of an Elvis fan.

They obviously don't know much about Michael's influences. Just because he now looks like a white man and he married Lisa Marie it doesn't mean he idolises Elvis, he just doesn't see why elvis should be so glorified. IMO part of the reason for the reason he turnt "White".

hmmm speaking of the 'Victory' tour...I think MJ made a huge mistake by doing it.In 1983/84,he should have went on his own "Thriller World Tour".It would have been the biggest tour ever!! He missed a golden opportunity.

Can't there just be official word about Michael or the family without the rumors and innuendo first? Maybe it's because I'm plugged into the Org that it seems like every consideration and rumor from Vegas to a theme park is news. I'm only interested in the end result, not all the talk leading up to it.

True, but there were still many problems. They were supporting a weak album ('Victory') and most people think of that tour as "charity" on Michael's part.He was just doing it to help out his brothers, who were nearly broke.

Imagine if,in late 1983/84,Michael had done his own tour in support of 'Thriller'.That would have been much more successful and more exciting.

Every time I think of the Victory Tour I think of the press conference at Tavern on the Green and the look on Michael’s face beside his brothers and Don King. He was either really pissed at something or sooo didn’t want to be there. Maybe both.

Yep, Michael did the Victory tour under duress and after intense pressure from his family. The Jacksons intended to take the tour to Europe after the US dates but Michael refused and announced the tour was over without consulting his brothers.

His heart wasn't in that tour.I think his parents pressured him to do it.Notice that he didn't even appear in the videos from the album ("Torture" and "Body").He was just going through the motions, trying to keep his family happy
neutral This is what he should have done:

MICHAEL JACKSON 'THRILLER' WORLD TOUR 1984
FEATURING opening act Madonna or Shannon ("Let The Music Play")

The PR tour was after the Victory tour, I think. PR started in Novemebr 1984.

This reunion ain't gonna happen.

Jermaine could tour by his damned self and still get a pretty good turnout. Not on the same level of his brotha of course, but he could earn a decent living still.

This reunion ain't gonna happen.

It would have made sense. She was a new artist at the time, and she and Michael had the same manager. The two of them on a big tour in 1984 would have been amazing.
