ROBIN THICKE MAKES HISTORY ON R&B CHART

ROBIN THICKE MAKES HISTORY ON R&B CHART: Plus, singer’s tour stops in the MD/DC area this weekend.

*Robin Thicke, son of actor Alan Thicke and singer/soap star Gloria Loring, has just become the first white man since George Michael to reach the top of Billboard’s R&B chart, thanks to his current smash hit, “Lost Without U.”

The single, from his gold-certified sophomore solo album “The Evolution of Robin Thicke,” is also the most requested video at MTV and VH1, his label states. “Evolution,” coincidentally, is the No. 1 album on Billboard's R&B Top 100 Albums chart and No. 6 on the Top 200 Albums chart.

“Lost Without U” and several other tracks from the album are streaming at Thicke's MySpace page, http://myspace.com/robinthicke. The video for "Lost Without U" is streaming at his Web site, www.robinthicke.com. "The Evolution" is nominated for a Soul Train Award for Best Soul/R&B Album, and the singer will be on hand to perform at the March 10 ceremony.

Meanwhile, Thicke, who's married to actress Paula Patton, just launched a tour behind the album at the NBA All-Star game last weekend in Las Vegas. He’ll touch down in Annapolis, MD and Alexandria, VA this weekend before continuing his trek scheduled through March 21.

Good for him. I guess a "slow build" worked for him because it seemed that neither the lead single nor the album was generating much heat last year.

That so offensive to say..I know Robin didn't intentionally ask to be grouped in the R&B category, so what if he's white...good music is colorless. He is very unique and so unlike justin as far as character are concerned. He's talented just like George Michael, Teena Marie, Hall and Oates, and Christina and yes soulful too. Deal with it.

A good friend of mine called me last night and was bragging about his album. He said there is some synthesizer Princey type songs on it. The first thing I asked was if it has drum machines or real drums....and if it has drum machines, are they strong sounding drum machines or weak shit hop sounding ones because weak drum machines and bass absolutely ruin a song. He said he really didn't pay attention but he would make me a copy to see what I thought.

Does this album sound like anything I would like?

fast songs...some. slow songs no...and there are way way too many slow songs on the album for me to recommend it to you. however, i think you would like his debut cd which is far more upbeat and experimental.

Trust me, I heard the album. It doesn't sound like old school Funk Prince. It's more reflective of Prince's softer ballads (Adore, Insatiable, Damn U, etc.).

I don't think there's anyone out there trying to bring back the hard Funk side of Prince.

Except me. wink

He's a good artist that sounds great when mixed in with a musical dearth of talent.

OK, I think I may have seen one of his videos as I was surfing TV channels. It was a white guy singing a slow song with a falsetto and playing a guitar. It was simply decent but not really something I would spend money on. I'm anxious to see if there are any uptempo songs on the album. I'm wondering if he's a white version of someone like D'Angelo.....someone who is influenced by Prince but only slow Prince.....which gets on my last nerve because Prince was not a damn balladeer so why do people who are influenced by him end up being one. Oh well, I'll just wait and see what's on it....it's free. lol

You know, when Prince played the Foo Fighters song, nobody made a fuss about some black guy playing music in a predominantly white genre.

Jesus, when will folks just accept the talent for what it is?

I think you'd like "In My Dreams" and maybe "Threesome," but they're outtakes. You can listen to them here: http://www.robinthicke.i8.com/

Robin Thicke's pretty cool. Justin Timberlake's a fool.
Robin is authentic r&b. Justin timberlake is a fake trying
to capitalize off r&b sound. That said i hope this thread does
not turn into a racial debate.
