a nice little bit of synchronicity that you should happen to post this. I just happened to glance at a Ziggy-ere photo of Bowie yesterday and noticed for the first time just how poor his teeth were. He's had some nice work done.

I wonder why he fixed them. They certainly didn't hurt his image. They were pretty "Austin Powers-ish".

I liked Snaggletoothed Bowie. The grill matched the eyes.

When it comes to any other body part, I am completely of the 'live and let wilt' school, but teeth are one area where I'm willing to get on board the cosmetic surgery train. Poor teeth are one of my big hang-ups, and one of the first things I notice about people. My hang-up is bad enough that whenever the pressure gets ramped up in my life (year-end at work or something like that) it's guaranteed that I'll start having anxiety dreams about losing a tooth (usually my right incisor).

but enough about my neuroses...

i read a story about him in interview magazine circa 1994, around the time he had his teeth done. he said he had it done because his 'fangs' wouldn't stop growing and he was getting hideous headaches and waking up with blood on his pillow...so it was as much for his health as anything.

That kinda reminds me of Martin Amis and the horror stories he had with his teeth. In his memoir's index, his teeth and related subjects took up about half a page. lol

If it's good enough for Mrs. Beecroft, it's good enough for Bowie!
