Oh My...this is a sad, sad, sad day sad
I just got out of bed a few minutes ago but was instantly awake when I read those terrible news sad

James Brown is definately the greatest artist of the last 50 years, you can hear his influence in almost anything on the radio today!

I'm so glad that I took the chance to see him live 2 years ago!! I also had tickets to see him last summer, but I couldn't go because I was in the hospital last summer...but I thought to myself, that there'd be plenty of chances to see this living legend again!

You just couldn't imagine that JB would ever die, I mean...this man was rocking the stage so hard at over 70 years of age that it was really unthinkable that he could just flat out die one day sad

All my best wishes to his family and friends, and may God bless his funky soul!

well, I don't really look at it as terrible, we all die, that's just my view on life in general.

I'll be spinning JB for weeks to remember him though.

Magical, musical, mystical, strong, black, and in control. This man was soul...pure and simple. He is and always will be the master. He is the nucleus of what Michael and Prince eventually became. What's very powerful to me is that he passed on X-mas meaning that his name will be remembered on the same day most people remember Jesus on.....think about it. That says a lot to me. Leave it to James to check out on a day like this. Everybody in America damn near is going to be playing James in some form or another and it may set off a new tradition in the sense of Christmas as far as the celebration of it is concerned because I'm playing James way loud on this day! Long live the Godfather Of Soul!

NO FREAKING WAY. eek

this isn't exactly shocking, i suppose, since the man lived a HARD life...but wow. you just don't expect james brown to ever die, as ridiculous as that sounds. he's james brown! he's supposed to ALWAYS be around! sad

this is really sad news. i remember rocking out to my "living in america" vinyl 45 when i was a kid and barely knew who james brown was. i remember every time he was on TV, my mom would make a big deal out of james brown being on, because we knew his performances would blow us away every time.

to me, james brown is to soul what johnny cash is to country. they're the purest definition of what each genre is/was supposed to be, and proof of how far those musical communities have strayed. if johnny was earth, james was fire. both were (and are) elemental to music.

this is really sad news. not completely unexpected, but yeah...ya just never think of a world without JB. sad

i'm gonna have to put "jungle groove" on heavy rotation this week. RIP. rose

You just summed up my thoughts, verbatim.

I'm still in a state of shock.

But I can't lie and say that I'm TOO sad for his death, he really lived a ROUGH, troubled, angry and sad life to this day. May he rests in peace.

Him and Aretha are my BIGGEST "to be portrayed in biopix" wishes.

This is my FAVE per4mance from him:

Man I just found out now and had to come to
the ORG where I knew people who love music
and a man of his talent would be posting.
It is so important for us at this time, as
Prince fans, as funk fans, to mourn this
mans passing. He was my inspiration. Period.
No one has come before him. And if any have
come after it would only be to copy his
style or mimick his originality. I am really
sad today because the Godfather of Soul has
died. I am so upset that really there are no
words. But I will say that it is uplifting
to know that people who recognize true musician-
ship can still be found here at the ORG. Through
all the debated topics and musical disagreements,
we all "recognize" when someone great has been
lifted from our grasps and to the eternal hands
of the Almighty. Rest in peace James Brown.
