I don't think of Oprah as an oreo. Can she help it if old white ladies and housewives like her? Maybe more Black women would like her too however we're too busy WORKING to tune in to her show.(somebody's gonna get mad at me for that)
Black people with any sense at all will recognize the fact that 50 cent is just a childish attention whore who is dropping the name of one of the most powerful people in the entertainment biz to keep his own name in the news. He attempted this same nonsense with Kanye West. Kanye had enough sense (for once) to not even acknowledge his remarks. I can assure you, Oprah has done more for Black people than 50 cent's microscopic brain can ever dream of. How many Black students did 50 send to college? What I also find distressing is when a Black woman is powerful or successful, Black men automatically come to the conclusion that she is conspiring against them or has no love or respect for them. Man the fuck up and stop acting like a little bitch. I guess if she locked herself up in the house and gave Stedman control of the show and her production company, Black men would have more respect for her. whut ever.

I think Oprah just learned how to play the game. And that is the demographic of choice. I think Tyra is trying the same thing.
At least Oprah didn't fleece anybody or play "show your skin" game. I think a good spin off thread would be "How Did Oprah become a Billionaire? 50 should if anything study her business model. He is going to get older so he can't sing/rap "I got shot nineteen times In Da Club this week." when he gets older. "The first time I saw the cover of Dirty Mind in the early 80s I thought, 'Is this some drag queen ripping on Freddie Prinze?'" - Some guy on The Gear Page

I hate to chime in, as I usually don't, but on this, I can't resist, being such a huge fan of Carrie. The film is one of my all-time faves ever. And the book, although vastly different from the film, is a horror masterpiece. Although, I question sometimes where Mr. King is coming from with his choice of word-play. He uses the word "nigger" in this book and in other books of his. I, because I think he is an incredible author, always like to give him the befifit of the doubt that he's expressing the character's state of mind and not his own. An attack on Oprah is not an attack on white people. 50s audience doesn't want him to be humble, they want him to clown. Tell me where I said there was an "attack" on white people? My point, before you put words in my mouth (and which I thought was very clear) is that he has a lot of nerve knocking Oprah for having a mostly-white audience when he's ignoring that a large portion of his audience is caucasian.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to put words in your mouth. I didn't change your post. I was simply responding with a counter-point. 50 knows his audience probably better than any other rapper. That's why he's as popular as he is. He's not talented, just clever. He knows his audience wants to hear him diss somebody famous. He's just catering to that low brow desire. Its not like he has any skills or has ever had anything really positive to say.

Can anyone tell me exactly what makes Oprah an "oreo"? In other words, what values does she have/display/act on that other Black people supposedly don't possess?
I'll be waiting | |
