Maybe, but the downside to all that new music buying means I don't have many catalog albums which is something I'm trying to rectify. You already know about my classic Bowie splurge earlier this year and I recently did the same with 70s Stevie Wonder. Blender just reviewed every Velvet Underground album in their latest issue which has me excited. I kinda want to get all those too. The only VU studio album I have is the first one.

I thought 2004 was really bad. I could only think of six records to put on my best of list that year. This year I have about 15--same as last year.

The first VU is by far the best. There are moments to be had on the other 3, but they're nowhere near as spectacular.

Funny you should mention 2004, cuz that year was really solid for me.

Did you ever get into the band called !!! (Chk-chk-chk) ?

I've heard great things about !!!, but never got into them. They always seem to get mentioned with bands like Gang Of Four and LCD Soundsystem.

White Light/White Heat is amazing! It was my favorite VU album for awhile, but the diversity of the debut eventually won me over.
Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!

You know how it is. Music for me is like pizza. When it's good, it's really, really good. And when it's bad--it's still pretty good. razz

They do sorta fit with those bands, but mix in a bit of U2, Konk! and Tom Tom Club. Yet they totally have their own thing going on too. They're endlessly funky, have great politics, great lyrics. You definitely need to check out "Louden Up Now".

This album is fantastic! I'm gonna have to eat my words, because I stated a few weeks back on this very site that my top five was set for the year. I expect this is gonna push Bonnie Prince Billy down to #4 and kick out the Handsome Family.
