Suggest an UBER TERRIFIC Album released in 2006

I'm looking to expand my musical horizons again, and I trust you folks to point in some interesting directions.

I'm mostly into Art-Rock type stuff (Radiohead, Danielson, Sonic Youth) right now.

But I will listen and dig just about anything if it's done well, and doesn't digress into formulaic style mongering. shrug In other words, No Lenny Kravitz please.

I'm on the verge of giving into the hype and buying this without hearing anything. lol Sounds right up my alley.

I've seen some of your posts with your music preferences. I think you may also dig it.

I call them the Living Color of now, without the pretentiousness and with the inpsiration.

I actually like them because of desperate Youth cd.

It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

Yep. nod I just saw them live on Saturday night in Cologne (in a small venue excited ). headbang

It fucking rocked!!!!! nod headbang I was really surprised at how good they sounded live actually. I was expecting to be, well, not very impressed to be honest. All those YouTube clips floating around on the internet of their live shows really don't do them justice. It was awesome. thumbs up! I even bought a t-shirt (which I never do since I make my own biggrin ) which really says a lot.

I was going to start a thread about the show, but I figured "why bother" because I know they have few fans on this site. lol

I adore this album and this band: nod

I was drawn in by their song and video "Chelsea Dagger" because it has a 70s glam rock sound and frankly, because the lead singer/guitarist, Jon Fratelli looks like Marc Bolan's twin. lol redface

So then I got the album, and I just loved it. nod There is perhaps only one song on the whole thing that I don't really care for. I had to add them to my MySpace friends even. lol I'm a hopeless dork. boxed

Yeah, they're great aren't they? I'm a real sucker for power trios, just something about 'em that kicks ass generally speaking. The album is manna from heaven being channeled through Led Zeppelin. headbang

That said however, I didn't think they were anywhere near best form at the Uk Music Hall of Fame Awards last week!

Exactly! Damn, you should see how they are being ripped apart in the Zeppelin forums for their cover of Communication Breakdown (right in front of Jimmy Page no less lol ) disbelief

I thought they were crap on Tuesday night at the awards playing that song. Which is why I had reservations about how they'd be live. But damn, the walls were just shaking, and there was so much more depth than I had expected. Stockdale's voice was clear as a bell, and his solos were also very good. nod I was very impressed and had a blast! headbang

Totally. nod You can't get more art-rock than that album. And the reviews for it are across-the-board terrific.

give me this over thom yorke whining about his hemmorhoids for 45 minutes anytime. it might be 'novelty' (which i don't think it is, but whatevs) but i've had more fun drunken dancing to 'impeach my bush' this year than i've had listening to anything released this year. if that means i don't know anything about uber terrific music, i totally embrace my sucktitude. i wallow in it. i roll around and sop up the suck with a biscuit. yum.

i'd take her over Thom Yorke any day too. that doesn't make her good though. i haven't heard this one, but if it's like her other 2, it's fun (and funny), but not incredibly good. cheap shock value. she would have been revolutionary in the late 80's or early 90's (which is when it sounds like it was made), when that sort of thing took you a long way.
