I'm looking to expand my musical horizons again, and I trust you folks to point in some interesting directions.


I'm mostly into Art-Rock type stuff (Radiohead, Danielson, Sonic Youth) right now.

But I will listen and dig just about anything if it's done well, and doesn't digress into formulaic style mongering. In other words, No Lenny Kravitz please.

i can't really think of an uber terrific release from this year right now
but the ones i liked a lot were:

beck - the information
thom yorke - the eraser
matmos - the rose has teeth in the mouth of a beast
sufjan stevens - the avalanche

The new Beatles - Love was really impressing!! especially the surround mix wow

Yep. I just saw them live on Saturday night in Cologne (in a small venue ).

It fucking rocked!!!!! I was really surprised at how good they sounded live actually. I was expecting to be, well, not very impressed to be honest. All those YouTube clips floating around on the internet of their live shows really don't do them justice. It was awesome. I even bought a t-shirt (which I never do since I make my own ) which really says a lot.

I was going to start a thread about the show, but I figured "why bother" because I know they have few fans on this site.

I adore this album and this band:








I was drawn in by their song and video "Chelsea Dagger" because it has a 70s glam rock sound and frankly, because the lead singer/guitarist, Jon Fratelli looks like Marc Bolan's twin.

So then I got the album, and I just loved it. There is perhaps only one song on the whole thing that I don't really care for. I had to add them to my MySpace friends even. I'm a hopeless dork.

That said however, I didn't think they were anywhere near best form at the Uk Music Hall of Fame Awards last week!

I thought they were crap on Tuesday night at the awards playing that song. Which is why I had reservations about how they'd be live. But damn, the walls were just shaking, and there was so much more depth than I had expected. Stockdale's voice was clear as a bell, and his solos were also very good. I was very impressed and had a blast!

i'd take her over Thom Yorke any day too. that doesn't make her good though. i haven't heard this one, but if it's like her other 2, it's fun (and funny), but not incredibly good. cheap shock value. she would have been revolutionary in the late 80's or early 90's (which is when it sounds like it was made), when that sort of thing took you a long way.
