Isaac Hayes is 60 today: Appreciation Thread I have Hot Buttered Soul, Shaft soundtrack and Best Of CDs. This guy is a true loverman soul pioneer, who didn't come off cliched like Barry White.
Bonus points for those who avoid South Park references in what makes him so great...

Dammit! Isaac was one of the pieces of the foundation in the House that is/was Stax. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

An underrated talent. Ike doesn't get half the props he deserves. People always try to put him in that Shaft piegeonhole and that's not right. Like that is the only thing he has given the music world. Ike's a great composer, a great arranger and can handle a multitude of musical styles as well. From his Memphis Stax soul years to the early 70's funk style he help mold to the late 70's disco material he did with ease...("Don't Let Go" is a great example of how to make a disco song of substance...hard funky rhythm merged with a hard R&B beat and that merged with violin strings that are normally associated with disco music)...the bridge on this song is a clinic and it worth the price of admission alone.
Plus Ike made a superior album in 1995 called BRANDED that has to be believed to be heard. This was one of the best albums of 95'. He's one of a kind...Shut yo mouth!!! Well, I'm talking about Ike.

I remember seeing the "Don't Let Go" video on VH1Classic, I was ! The sheer variety of music they play on that channel is astounding.
Back in the late 60s Isaac was one of the earliest recording artists to record 10-12 minute songs with regularity. His catalog should be remastered and reissued. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

South Park is the only thing that makes him great. Overrated, if you ask me. Oh, and a Scientologist too. That's 10 points off in itself.

The Brother is Badd Badd.check out His Orchestration&the Sheer Drive&Force He brings into His Music. His SOundtracks are tight as well&the Brother can Act a Bit as well."Truck Turner" was cool.as a Writer the Guy is Badd as a Arranger top notch.Producer got that down pat as well.Vocalist that don't play.the "Chocolate Chip Cookie" album was tight.still dig "Black Moses".Isaac Hayes has been slept on far too long IMHO.and while "Shaft" is over-played to Death IMHO(I still dig it)that Song still Sounds Fresh to this day.thinking about the Shaq Pack&Burger King was Rocking a 30 Year Old Song&it still has that Edge just from the Wah,Wah alone.now that is GENIUS!!! mistermaxxx
