allmusic.com: 3/5 stars.
Dave Thompson: 6/10. It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

it's not a good album at all....sounds generic and over-produced,like alot of music from this period (mid-80s).A voice like Chaka's does not need layer and layers of synthesizers.
Notably, the first single is called "Love Of A Lifetime".Several years later, she released a single called "Love You All My Lifetime"

Is that the album from either 1982 or 1983? If so, I got the 45s "Got To Be There" and "Tearin' It Up" and they are pretty good. Andy is a four letter word.

I love Chaka's 12 Inch version much better. The main reason I bought the album was for the song "My Love Is Alive". She jammed the hell out of that one. The album has kind of a breakdance feel to it, which I like. . . [Edited 10/5/06 14:08pm] Andy is a four letter word.

The album is from 1986.It was her follow-up to 1984's 'I Feel For You'. That must be the one with "Earth To Mickey". I have the 12 Inch and it is absolutely great. It's Chaka gone Minneapolis style. I never heard anything else from the album. Andy is a four letter word.

I think prince produced earth to mickey.
the destiny lp to me seemed to take chaka khan to another phase for career purposes. like a transition from the seventies sound to a soultry sound.I may be wrong. nipsy

This is the album that Warner Bros COMPLETELY orchestrated(to go with the motion, esp since she released a pop album previously).
Moments like these, show you WHY she was right when she ditched WB outta her system. They really fucked her up. Tight Fit is the HIGHLIGHT of the album though 'Sexy' is all over that song like white on rice. Sandra St. Victor and her bruh Mark Stevens sing back-up in most of the album(esp that song). Its an addition to your Chaka collection but its the least likeable album from both of her fans and herself alike.

Yeah, that DESTINY one was WAY too slick!! IMO, Chaka Khan(1982) was the last really good 80's solo album from her... .... " I've got six things on my mind --you're no longer one of them." - Paddy McAloon, Prefab Sprout

I think this is her landmark SOLO record, IMO.
She was where she wanted(the follow-up, she did the infamous one-take Jazz gig for her album Echos Of An Era). So, it was a fine period of her career. Not to mention, the production is TOP NOTCH(Arif brough it the baddest of the bad; most of them all,,,Mr.Dizzy Gillespie). Night Moods is a helluva blue velvet jam [Edited 10/6/06 12:19pm]

the "Destiny" album by Chaka is a bit uneven. It has some good points and bad. I think the album is WAY overly produced and some of the songs are just hilarious(i.e. "Love Of A Lifetime" and "Earth To Mickey"_ but there are some high points like the rocker "So Close." It was Chaka's first attempt at rock as a solo act and she does VERY well. "Tight Fit" was also a great song. I think side 2 is better than side 1 but there is substance under the cheese. I would rank "Destiny" higher than Chaka's cellar dwellar, "C.K."

Nfact, now that ya mention it, this was one of my first ever CD purchases. I had originally bought it on cassette back in '88, and pretty much wore out the tape... when I got my first Cd player later that year, C.K. was one of my first Discs.... ... C.K. is Chaka's most personal album. She was going through tough shit during the process of the album; her drug use was taking a toll on her and a ROCKY relationship(not to mention, a risky operation for her vocal chord).
But she regards it as her most personal album becoz of Miles Davis' presence in both of Sticky Wicked(Dumb attempt from Prince's behalf and dumber attempt from Chaka to RAP ) and the song "I'll Be Around" which is one of the 2 tribute songs she paid for Billie Holiday(I think End Of A Love Affair is her HIGHEST moment in her career, unlike the ones b4, she and Aretha knew who to put their spin on Billie Holiday's songs :nod". I'll take C.K. over I Feel For U & Disteny anyday, happy! Yes, the hell I do!
