Sadly yes, it was filmed hours before he and the Bar-Kays boarded the plane.

If I'm not mistaken, the Bar-Kays didn't take the same plane as he did(they lived).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bar-Kays

The Bar-Kays were a popular Memphis, Tennessee, soul, R&B, and funk group performing from 1966 and continue to perform today, although with only one original member. They began as a favorite soul studio sessions group backing major artists at Stax Records, chosen in 1967 by Otis Redding to play as his backup band.

On December 10, 1967, Redding, his manager, and band members Jimmy King (b.1949; guitar), Ronnie Caldwell (b. 1948; organ), Phalon Jones (b. 1949; saxophone), and Carl Cunningham (b. 1949; drums) died in a plane crash in Lake Monona while on their way to a performance in Madison, Wisconsin. Trumpeter Ben Cauley survived the crash and bassist James Alexander (who missed the flight due to returning a rental car) rebuilt the group. The reformed band consisted of Cauley; Alexander; Harvey Henderson, saxophone; Michael Toles, guitar; Ronnie Gorden, organ; Willie Hall, drums and later Larry Dodson, lead vocals. The group backed dozens of major Stax artists on recordings afterwards, including on Isaac Hayes' Hot Buttered Soul album, and changed direction in the 1970s to have a successful funk music career. They continued to score hits on R&B charts well into the 1980s and have performed all over the world.

Lloyd Smith joined the Bar-Kays in 1973.

If I'm not mistaken, the Bar-Kays didn't take the same plane as he did(they lived).

Most of the original bar-kays did take the flight which only trumpeter
ben cauley survived. Long time bassist james alexander missed the flight
and reformed the band a couple of years later. Vocalist larry dodson and
a keyboardist winston stewart joined in 1970 and by the mid 70's the barkays
took off. Even though i was just born around the time of the plane crash, it
is always sad to hear this story. Otis was one of the best r&b singers of
all time and the original barkays lineup just had a top ten smash soulfinger.
We are fortunate that james didn't take that flight because the world may have
not known what a great bassist he is and what a great band the barkays have
been throughout the 70's and 80's once he reformed the band.
Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint
