Prince produced Sheena Easton's "Sugar Walls" in 1984. He also discovered Bobby Nunn in 1982 (which sounded just like Prince) Prince and Protegees: Prince - 1978 The Time - 1981 Vanity 6 - 1982 cool. thanks. I was just a young'un at the time. I was a Rick James fan before a Prince fan, though. Just never got as deep into him as Prince. I was equally into both of them. Those feuding years were great. It brought out the best music from both of them. . . [Edited 10/3/06 13:28pm] Andy is a four letter word.

In My House is a better song in the traditional sense.... it gets you dancing, it's faster.....
Nasty Girl is aweosme but it's hard for a mainstream person to appreciate I think. The bass and drum pattern are great, and the whole feel is sexy. It build up and buld up.... but even with the 2nd part ("something I can groove to") it never gets up the momentum IMH does. BTW, the only real "vocalist" in MJGs was Jo-Jo. I don't think the other girls ever really sing. WHen I lived in Chicago they had a DJ on the black station that was doing gossip and said that basically, the Waters sisters did all the real singing for the Mary Jane Girls. They are credited on as BG signers on songs like "Shadow Lover" and also appear on Teena Marie songs "WHere's California". I always wondered if Jo JO was actually singing too.

When Denise was dating Rick, he told her he was going to put a girl group around her. More than likely, she told P this when she hooked up with P. Similar to P beating Rick to the punch with one of Rick's concept with the film Purple Rain. Rick had talked about doing this musical film in 82 called "Alice In Ghettoland" which would feature himself, Teena, the Stone City Band, etc. but who knows when Prince had the idea? It just looks suspicious--Process & The Do Rags and the Mary Jane Girls. But Prince has a talent for incorporating others' ideas into his own thing, so maybe HE stole it like you say. Actually, I heard of both Rick's bands before Prince's! Rick was slightly more mainstream at the time I think. And as far as charts go, The Mary Jane Girls' "In My House" was a bigger hit than Vanity 6's "Nasty Girl." "In My House" was a top 10 pop single as well as a top three soul music single. Personally, I like "Nasty Girl" better. It had a sly percussion-based rhythm section. "In My House" was literally a carbon-copy of the Rick James style. At least "Nasty Girl" came across like it was tailored for Vanity 6 to sing. [Edited 10/2/06 19:16pm] THE TRAFFIC JAMMERS, The Org's house band: VAINANDY -- lead singer; NAJEE -- bass; THE AUDIENCE -- guitar; PHUNKDADDY -- rhythm guitar; ALEX de PARIS -- keyboards; Da PRETTYMAN -- keyboards; FUNKENSTEIN -- drums. HOLD ON TO YOUR DRAWERS!

I would have to agree. And "All Night Long" is best of all.

Nope. But "All Night Long" might be. Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!

This is the truth right here. "Nasty Girls" is classic. But "All Night Long" is the jam. "What kind of fuck ending is that?"

Apparently not dancing as much as "Nasty Girl" did judging by its success in the clubs at the time.

Rick talked a lot in 1984 that their album was "soon to be released" but I never knew it actually got released until I joined the org. They never played any of their songs in my area. I guess he finally went through with it. He also said in some of the same interviews that year that he was working on a movie that year and "he would show who really had talent instead of riding around on a motorcycle like a fool".
