Hip me to some Jody Watley 
I'm on an 80s-90s R&B kick at the moment. As I was going through my mp3s, I realized I had listened to "I Want You" quite a bit this past summer, yet I haven't heard any other material from Jody. Yeah, I love all her stuff with Shalamar and as a solo artist but as of late, I'm still stuck on Midnight Lounge which is a more mellowed tripped out Jody but Jody nonetheless. Her self-titled album has a lot of the hits but I Intimacy is pretty good too. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off | |

This album is better than any of the full albums I've heard and got bored with that were released during her peak (although I still haven't bought her very first solo album, which looked like it was packed with some great songs). Get it! | |

if you're looking for a hits collection (solo), i'd suggest this one: 
looking for a new love, friends, everything, real love, i want you..etc there's also a 20th century masters with a fewer tracks. 
her solo debut is a classic. pretty much dance/r&b through and through. a must have. 
if you can find the rare "FLOWER" (European release only), PICK IT UP!  inludes "Off The Hook" and "Off The Hook" remix w/ RAKIM
her "Affection" and "Intimacy" albums were grossly over looked. her newer albums "Saturday Night Experience", "Midnight Lounge", and "the Makeover" are a combination of lounge/electronica/r&b/dance. great stuff on them.

Jody Watley got her start as a dancer on the syndicated TV show "Soul Train." Along with dance partner Jeffrey Daniel and Gerald Brown, they formed the group Shalamar. Their first hit was the 1977 Motown-inspired production "Uptown Festival," and shortly Howard Hewett replaced Brown as lead singer.
Shalamar enjoyed three gold albums and a string of hits in the early 1980s -- including "Second Time Around," "For the Lover in You," "A Night to Remember" and "Dead Giveaway" -- before Watley quit in late 1983. In 1987, Watley released her self-titled debut album, which was IMO the strongest album of her career. Like Janet Jackson's "Control," it was a great blend of soul/dance music that generated several hit songs -- "Looking for a New Love," "Still a Thrill," "Some Kind of Lover," "Don't You Want Me" and "Most of All." Though I consider 1989's "Larger Than Life" and 1992's "Affairs of the Heart" derivative, Watley still was able to generate hit songs such as "Real Love," "Friends" and "Everything" (from "Larger Than Life"); and "I Want You" and "I'm the One You Need" from "Affairs of the Heart." The first album is great from start to finish (not even one damn slow song on it).  On the second album, I like "Real Love" and maybe two other songs. None of her albums she made afterwards interested me enough to buy.Andy is a four letter word. | |
