Damion also sings on the bridge of "Tell Me What You Like". This track should have been a proper single with TR remixes...
I thought that "Dancin'" was a great lead single and hoped that it would bode well for "Guy III". Unfortunately not. Incidentally, there's a great remix of "Goodbye Love" on the Japanese version of "Guy III".

Some of the best remixes were on the 12" promos too; the Hype mix of "Teddy's Jam" comes to mind and the Fantasy mix (I think) of "My Fantasy".
I remember hearing that the track "The Future" was remixed for release. Anyone ever tracked down a 12" promo of this? I remember reading an interview with Teddy Riley just after the second album was released, in which he said that they were going to release a remixed version of it, as he wasn't that happy with the mixes. Nothing came of it, unfortunately.

I surely hope you are joking. Timmy Gatling was gone before GUY's debut album hit the street, which is a very strong reason to remove the songs. "You Can Call Me Crazy" sounded like an Al B. Sure! song and totally doesn't fit in with the rest of the album. "My Business" was flat-out awful. Damion Hall sung on the bridge of the original version of "D-O-G Me Out," and he also rapped on the remix of "Let's Stay Together." As for "D-O-G Me Out," there were two remixes that were good -- the one with the sample of "Atomic Dog" laced into the song and the aforementioned Wrecks-N-Effect rap. On top of that, "You Can Call Me Crazy" and "My Business" were the weakest songs on the album and practically is ignored. Nope. Not joking at all. The Timmy Gatling songs can be dropped in a remastered GUY album and "My Fantasy" can be added, similar to how Motown reissued Boyz II Men's "Cooleyhighharmony" with "End of the Road." I wasn't talking about when the album was being released in 1988, but future releases of the album. And you know this because you conducted a scientific survey and got the opinion of every GUY fan, right? If the songs are so essential, then why aren't they on any of the compilation GUY albums out there? So why of all the songs on that album that either was released as a single or played heavily on radio stations or in clubs, those two are at the bottom of the list? One song was a direct ripoff of Al B. Sure!'s sound ("You Can Call Me Crazy") and the other was a rancid filler track ("My Business") tucked on the end of the album. In fact, when you listen to those songs it seems like Gatling recorded those songs by himself -- there is nothing to suggest that Teddy Riley and Aaron Hall helped out on those songs. I didn't say songs from Boyz II Men's "Cooleyhighharmony" were deleted, just that reissued versions of that album later included "End of the Road." A similar treatment can be done with GUY's debut album by adding "My Fantasy." I would go one step further by removing the Timmy Gatling songs and adding some remixes, particularly "Spend the Night," "I Like," "'Round and 'Round (Merry Go 'Round of Love)." I would keep the original version of "I Like," like you suggested, but likely would replace the original versions of "Spend the Night" and "'Round and 'Round." The fact you said "rarely" states that it's very conceivable and has been done. I think adding a song that was a No. 1 single and deleting two songs from a member who quit before the album was originally released makes a lot of sense. I don't know what survey has been taken to gauge this, but I don't think most people would be terribly upset if the Timmy Gatling songs were removed from a re-issued GUY debut album. "You Can Call Me Crazy" and "My Business" were very likely the two least memorable songs on the album, they sound totally out of step with the rest of the album and were sung by someone who left the group way before the album was released in 1988 -- in fact, Damion Hall gives acknowledgements in the liner notes. It's fair to say that "My Fantasy" is considered an essential song in a GUY catalog, not an Al B. Sure! ripoff song and a terribly weak filler track performed by essentially a trivia question. It's not quite as funny as watching you duck and avoid the very obvious facts for removing the Timmy Gatling songs and adding "My Fantasy" and some better remixes for songs like "Spend the Night" and "'Round and 'Round (Merry Go 'Round of Love)." It would be one thing if "You Can Call Me Crazy" and "My Business" were hit singles, but in reality they're filler tracks from someone who left GUY before the album was released. You can find just as many people on this thread who didn't like the Timmy Gatling songs, so we're at a stalemate. "You Can Call Me Crazy" was played occassionally as an album track, but it would place at the bottom of the songs to receive airplay after the five singles, "Piece of My Love" and "Goodbye Love." AlexdeParis said: "You haven't made a convincing argument for deleting them IMO. If Zapp albums were remastered, would you advocate removing all traces of Larry Troutman since he killed Roger?"
Quite frankly, that's not even comparable and you come across as intelligent enough to realize that comparison doesn't make sense. I named very legitimate reasons: 1.) Timmy Gatling quit GUY before the group's first album was released (so far in advance that he is not listed anywhere in the liner notes, and Damion Hall is listed giving acknowledgements). 2.) His two songs on which he sang lead -- "You Can Call Me Crazy" and "My Business" -- were never released as singles, and were the weakest songs on the album. The songs rank behind "Groove Me," "Teddy's Jam," "I Like," "'Round and 'Round (Merry Go 'Round of Love)," "Piece of My Love," "Goodbye Love" and "Spend the Night" in any relevance. 3.) Conceptually, the songs didn't seem to fit the album then, and certainly don't fit into the style GUY developed on subsequent projects. In fact, when listening to the album it seems like Teddy Riley and Aaron Hall recorded eight songs by themselves and Gatling's two songs were done by himself. Those are legitimate reasons, especially if I have to choose between having the Gatling songs and having "My Fantasy." Personally, I never understood why re-released "GUY" albums never included "My Fantasy" in the first place. That's certainly different from ZAPP's situation, where founder and driving force Roger Troutman was killed in a recording studio years after his group's heyday. Gatling has no relevance at all in GUY's legacy -- he quit before the group's career started. The only reason you have come up with keeping the Gatling songs is that you want to be a completionist. We agree to disagree, which is fine. But don't try to insult my intelligence with some half-baked comparison to ZAPP and then not coming up with a convincing reason to keep the Gatling songs beyond "Because I said so." Last I looked, this was a free speech forum where we can express our opinions. Some more than others can express their opinion in a mature manner. So yes, if I was remastering GUY's debut album I would have no problem with removing the Timmy Gatling songs, for the reasons I stated. I have no problem with you disagreeing, but it would be nice if you tried to explain your reasoning in a much more mature fashion. In this case, there is more than acceptable reason to remove the Timmy Gatling tracks, especially if it comes at the expense of not adding GUY's only No. 1 single. In fact, MCA should have removed the tracks before the album was released in 1988 because he quit far enough in advance. In the nearly 20 years since that album came out, whenever I record that album for myself or others on cassette or CD "You Can Call Me Crazy" and "My Business" are never requested for the reasons stated.
