but no Parallel Lines around!

and just one album by The Rolling Stone and one by Dylan!
hmmm

And 2 by Janet Jackson. rolleyes
Nirvana can fuck right off. Was ever such a fuss made about so little? If Axl Rose had blown his brains out in 94 instead of Dirt Cobain you can bet your life Appetite 4 Destruction would be here instead of Nevermind
I've tried listening to Tori Amos, but as far as I can hear she doesn't seem to be able to craft a memorable melody or a cohesive lyric (except for Crucify). Also, Kate Bush should get royalties on her songs.
I think David Bowie is drastically overrated too. He's done some good things, but nothing to warrant the reverence he gets.

Someone is not a happy camper.

Maybe this list is more to your liking: http://www.rollingstone.c..._all_time/

Lots of Dylan and no Janet in their top 60.

That's why I did 60 instead of 50. There are 11 Prince albums total. Put about 10 spaces before Sign and 10-20 spaces in between the other albums and it would be a more accurate representation of the general population. But that's not how it turned out. This is the Prince.org top 50.

doh! you would think I coulda figured that out huh? lol

Yes, but the list does look kind of ridiculous at first. Prince has, what 5 or 6 of the top 10? Bowie's a bit out of balance, too.

But taken as a whole, it's pretty good. The order could be debated but the choices are really good, and varied, considering Miles Davis & John Coltrane made it.

There are some bad omissions, though--P-Funk, Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello...

I could see James not making it, as he's not so much an album guy, but P-Funk?

It tells me that there isn't a lot of crossover between fans of Prince and Springsteen and Costello. Unlike Bowie and Janet.

I was surprised however by how much old-school funk was underrepresented.

That much didn't shock me. As much as people here love Prince (obviously), a lot of people don't venture into funk beyond Prince...a lot!

Me too. Definitely wouldn't have picked Dylan or Velvet Underground to come in over P-Funk or Earth Wind & Fire or even Sly (who barely made it) with Prince fans.

Thanks for the consideration but Rolling Stone is written by pussies for pussies. That's one lazy conservative list right there. They obviously took care not to offend too many people with that list. Prince only one album at 93 and MJ in the Top 20 with Thriller. They know that's bullshit themselves, but they're reflecting the consensus among the plebs who buy their magazine. If they didn't, the plebs would stop buying

You might have changed the results if you'd done a list. Just 1 choice for Appetite at #1 could have made a real difference.

I've never heard Appetite. But yeah, I guess I'm just not inclined to making lists 'cos I'd find it impossible. btw, how hard did you find it to be diplomatic about albums you didn't agree with?

When you say diplomatic do you mean for inclusion or his comments on them?

I don't understand the question. I mean seeing something he didn't like and then having to find nice things to say about it.

Honestly it wasn't that hard. I actually like almost all of them.

I guess Janet might be the toughest to agree with personally, but it just wasn't a surprise that she made it having seen all the love she gets here. Also, she's at 29 or something, not #3.

Same with Madonna.

And both have good production, hits, long careers.

I don't. My younger sister got into the Cure and Morrissey and stuff like that. I had no time of day for any of that. I did buy her the B-side box set 2 Christmases ago. Maybe I should borrow those discs for a while lol We're also selling a Cure box set here at work, maybe I should buy it for my white half's sake lol Although Love song has always fucked me up in the most major way. I'm actually surprised I never got into them based on that one song because I absolutely love that song nod

Nice work.

I'm actually amazed Come made the list. I didn't even realize it connected with so many orgers like that. I loved "Dark," and liked "Letitgo" and the title track, as well as the Universal Love Remix of Space, but that's it.

Very interesting results. Many albums that barely missed my list (you'll soon see) made this list, such as The Velvet Underground & Nico, Songs in the Key of Life and many of the Bowies.

It absolutely kills me to see a Beatles album higher than 1999, but hey, it ain't my list. shrug

Says a lot about Abbey Road, though. Take away Prince and it's #1.

I had forgotten about your dislike of the Fab Four. Voters obviously thought 'Sgt. Pepper's' (my fave Beatles album) is overrated.
