Not necessarily. Look at soul artist LENA, with all of her Josephine Baker inflections mixed with Jay- Z's oversight. I love a lot of tracks from her first cd. Then of course a wider known example would be how Erykah Badu was able to successfully infuse Billie Holiday style phrasings into her debut cd, Baduizm....  | |

this song is not awful, but its not great either, its just ok. although it doesnt make me worried for the rest of the album because i like it better then dirrty which i thought was just as or even more generic and tuneless as this song. i just hope its like stripped where she releases the worst song on the album first but the rest is killer | |
