Keane - Under The Iron Sea (its leaked) Been listenin to it for a few days.. i'm still gettin accustomed to its sound..
anyone lookin forward to it? Best song to me so far is Atlantic.. Keane actually ventured into a darker territory in this album, its not as accessible as their last album. [Edited 6/7/06 0:39am]

Not sure what i think of KEANE even though they have paid respects to a-ha as their major influence which i respect, since a-ha are the major reason bands like them, Coldplay, Snow patrol and countless others have devleoped this piano-drum-guitar sound. Just wish america and VH1 would embrace a-ha the way they are so open to the other band, but thats a whole other issue. I guess my mixed feeling about Keane are mostly because i view them as an a-ha copy, though the band have spoken pretty highly of Keane in recent interviews, im a little interested in the new Keane cd just to see the direction.
On the a-ha note they are playing some dates this summer in the UK and Norway and then going on to play in Russia, there will be some solo releases coming, on indie labels, then a "charity benefit" single from a-ha and another new a-ha cd planned in 2007, but no plans of a USA return are in the cards. I wouldn't say they are copyin a-ha.. don't mis interpret the vocals for simular sound..
they are going for a more anthem cold play sound.. and coldplay is infact inspired by A-ha.. but their true followers of radiohead.

I think mainly i feel that a few bands have lifted their sound and kind of taken credit for it. I think the sound can be traced back to 1990 when a-ha recorded "east of the sun west of the moon" there is a track on that cd called "Waiting For Her" which has a distinct "piano" riff that has been heard in most Coldplay songs, and who can forget U2's rip of "Sun always Shines On Tv" during "Beautiful Day" even U2 admit they took that. I dont really mind the sound a likes and things like that, because it could be worse, they could be sampling or covering a-ha, but i think my frustration is in that America doesnt know where the sound came from, maybe one day. I like the single and b-sides, but I haven't tracked down the album yet.
Keane is a band that I thought was sorta light-weight and not worthy of too much attention until I saw them live. I was highly impressed by their show.
